193401 2003-11-20 19:55:00 Can anyone give advice on whether there is any combined software out there that combines in one package protection against... virus, firewall, spyware, spam, cookies...etc or at least a combination of some of these.

I have trialed individual products at length but it is ludicrous to have all these individual products running in the background.

Many thanks

193402 2003-11-20 20:02:00 I've been using Norton's Internet Security 2002 for a while now.It has the anti-virus,popup,firewall controls. As for spam and cookies, cookies are controlled by Opera,Firebird,IE6, and Paradise ISP now controls spam for me!!!

To be honest, an All-In-Wonder solution may be convenient, but not very effective...

Anti-Virus I recommend AVG 6 Free Edition, from grisoft.com
Its great for Dial-Up users with most updates (Weekly) being only 50KB!

Firewall, I'd suggest Smoothwall on a dedicated PC, or if not, then ZoneAlarm has been a long-standing contender.

Spryware will never be a problem when you use SpyBot Search & Destroy from spybot.info - Get the Beta from the Forums, has support for creating system restore points in XP, among other things (Ive found a few bugs myself, so its obviously not as stable as 1.2)

Spam, Try Mailwasher, or FrontGate MX is supposedly a new contender, yet proven to be good too... I dont get Spam so wouldnt know, or if I did, Mozilla Thunderbird has a Spam filter!

Mozilla Firebird is my fav browser (Firebird and Thunderbird are both great apps) and blocks cookies you dont want, and stops popups too!

You dont have to have the lot running 24/7, only Anti-virus really... Spybot twice a week or more if you want...

An all in one will also cost you a lot more, as opposed to this list of free utilities Ive just listed which would rival anything you can pay for!

Hope this helps

193404 2003-11-21 06:44:00 I now have 4 programs on my puter,..spyboy s&d...ad-aware...norton....and my latest and in my opinion the best so far...spysweeper.I consider this the best only because it found spyware that all the others missed.I do use all.I also have mailwash, very good.Somehow I don`t think you would find it ludicrous when you puter crashes simply because you didn`t want a program running in the background.Chill gives some good advice,so take heed of what she says,I did and I`m better off for it.
