193750 2003-11-22 06:08:00 A price of a low end athlon isn't much above a duron if you have the $$.

Since you are looking at a low end system it probably isn't worth getting an nforce2 based board. They have good performance but the boards are ~$40 more than a via based one.

193751 2003-11-30 14:15:00 the motherboard is more important than the cpu which is easy to replace later on and isnt so important for stabilty, overall performance of PC etc and a duron is fine as a start if budget is tight kiwibeat (304)
193752 2003-11-30 16:34:00 I don't know what part of NZ you are in but I recently went to the Penrose computer flea market in Auckland (sat mornings 9-12) and bought an upgrade box - New case - 400w power supply, motherboard, athlon 2000xp, 256mb of pc2700 ram, all installed, for $500. Beats the hell out of trying to buy all the bits yourself. Octavian. (4897)
