193766 2003-11-22 22:27:00 Well if it wasn't for the networks the filesharing couln't occur in the first place.

I think it is VERY good though, it can't be good having that many tards in one place. Also, it's probably better that the hub got removed than the amount of users suddenly dropping because they'd each got individual emails regarding what they're doing.

Local peer-to-peer service shut down (computerworld.co.nz)

New Zealand's largest peer-to-peer (P2P) service has shut down, apparently for good. P2p.net.nz, hosted on Orcon internet's servers, returns a 404 "file not found" error and speculation in the industry suggests that it won't be returning.

It look like you all where correct, they apparently have shut down.

193768 2003-11-25 22:01:00 And what's the bet the IT journos heard it here on PF1 first! :D Greg S (201)
193769 2003-11-26 00:24:00 I was thinking that... especially after reading the section which went along the lines of "two theories have been posed about the closure...". agent (30)
193770 2003-11-26 00:40:00 It was closed by the owner after the publicity in the Herald.

Seems having a url published in an internationally recognised paper draws a lot of attention very quickly.

Too much pressure, thats why it was taken down - who'd want their own ass on the line for a group of file sharers?

193771 2003-11-26 00:48:00 Interesting... wonder who put the Herald onto dc.p2p.net.nz.

And I'm also wondering if that was a little like the Slashdot effect, but in terms of publicity - no doubt the RIAA would have seen that article.

193772 2003-11-26 00:53:00 The hub was pretty well known.

Anyone using DC in New Zealand would've probably been on it at one stage or another... ask a couple of file sharers, or even the Herald Tech staff who were probably using it and you've got a couple.

Google and you've got a gouple more.

Sad though, it was an excellent hub (not that I'd ever indulge in filesharing) :D
