193589 2003-11-21 11:02:00 Personally I have no problems with ISP's or Telecom setting bandwidth limits. I use about 2gigs per month, so don't even come close to reaching my 5 gig limit.

My thoughts are because the more people that chew into the network bandwidth, the slower it gets incrementaly for everyone else.

People who ***** and moan about capped adsl should remember how lucky they are to get higher-than-56k speeds - they should know what it was like in 1995.

Anyway - 10 years from now I bet the youngsters will be bitching coz they can't always achieve 256Mb/s speeds and moaning about 100gig bandwidth limits!

193590 2003-11-21 11:04:00 Hehhe...ok...it seems the NZ ISPs quite didnt understand the very basic use of the internet; Sharing information (no, I dont mean shuffling Mp3 and movies).

a 256 connection with 500mb monthly quota? Funny....

And the day you like to do something creative, like publishing your photos, send a videogreeting for Xmas with good quality, put up a webserver? Nice...Back to the modems I say...:)

Downloading a Linux ISO isnt to think of I guess...Sigh...

Is this bandwidth and trafic-rules the same at ALL Nz ISPs?!?

Yup, they just differ very slightly.

Where you from Peter - somewhere in Scandinavia?

193594 2003-11-21 12:14:00 Hahah...Cold...yeah...reading +1 degrees right now, expecting -25 in just months :=)

I find it rather interesting to read about the NZ IT world, the trends and the hyped markets. Comparing to Swedish/Euro terms, sometimes it really makes me wonder whats going on and who does make such stupid regulations. Still, Telia in Sweden is offering a 2mb connection for roughly 70$ a month with quota, doubt anyone did ever sign up for such tho.

Most ISPs charge you 70$ for atleast 512, up to 26Mb connections....eagerly awaiting my 13Mb connection...

193595 2003-11-21 12:21:00 Interesting. A lot of people complain here about our charges, but really they're becoming more reasonable all the time. My 128kb connection is quite adequate (except for most online gaming).

I pay a total of NZ$50.00 per month for my dsl Internet, and of course I can use the same phone line for telephone at the same time - not too bad, and it's a reasonable speed for browsing the Internet, and even downloads are fine because it's quite a solid connection - this means sure, maybe half an hour for a biggish download, but I can go cook dinner or do other stuff while it's downloading - no probs to me.

193596 2003-11-21 12:25:00 -Remember, the faster you download, the bigger your penis is...eh :)

Yes...Moving flats and not transfering my dsl connection left me stuck on modem while my ISP is upgrading the telestation to Vdsl support aswell as struggling with its deliverance of modems to all customers. Was expecting to be online again mid October, seems I will be getting everything up and running just days before Xmas. Sigh.

I fully do understand the games complaining about the bad speed online and delayes, yet, you get what you pay for!

Woah, family forum dude!

Anyway, the internet exists for only one purpose - to shuffle porn, mp3s and warez from a computer in one country to another across the world and back again .
