193523 2003-11-21 01:01:00 mine lasted about 5 years before permanently having a pink haze over everything. i dont know what went wrong, but i used to move it all over the place, to LAN parties etc. TheBOKE (2107)
193524 2003-11-21 01:03:00 Well, I picked up from our recycle depot at the local tip, a KTX TopScan 1995 vintage 14", and while not up to quality of my 1 year old Viewsonic, is working OK. $5.00 worth.

193526 2003-11-21 01:36:00 Depends a lot on usage how bright you adjust it refresh rates etc should be ok for at least 5 to 8 years or so though its also dependent on brand temperature etc kiwibeat (304)
193527 2003-11-21 01:48:00 Ive seen the expected lifespan reported as 5 to 7 years,I've seen a heap in use that are much older then that, and ive seen a few that didn't last out a year.

Im using a 17inch Sampo thats a good 6 years old, still going strong,But when you compare the image quality between it and the new Proview thats beside it......ugh.....is the word.Still,My sampo has survived a a car trip from Brisbane to Sydney,a flight from sydney to NZ,and about 15 house moves.I think i have had my monies worth.

193528 2003-11-21 02:10:00 Be careful

The KTX of that era had a fault, and were recalled. They could catch fire.

Doesn't affect all models, but they were sold here.

193529 2003-11-21 03:09:00 Thanks GF. Did come across that site during a web search - luckily my model is a CM 451S. I understand that KTX re-badge most of their products from other manufactures.

193530 2003-11-21 07:22:00 Aaarrrrgggh
We have one of those models (CAE565SG, dated May 1996, bought new) on a PC still in use.
Do you know if replacement transformers are still available, or if the distributor is still in business and honouring the fix?
cheers

193531 2003-11-21 07:34:00 When I last tried (2-3 years ago) the distributor never even responded.

Unfortunately there is nothing available that says just what the fault is, but its plainly real enough to make one think about ever using it again.
