194180 2003-11-23 08:14:00 Maryann has W98se on a Dell m/c. The first screen that comes up after Boot is the Username & Password one. We would like to change the background picture, any ideas??
After this comes the desktop screen, we can change this one & the screensaver. No problems with these. Thanks PJ

these are the ones that you change for while booting up....

194184 2003-11-26 20:01:00 If you wish to change the background wallpaper and screensaver for the logon, try using Registry Tweaks to implement this
Change the Logon Wallpapaer (www.winguides.com). And Change Logon Screensaver (www.winguides.com).

194185 2003-11-27 04:12:00 Poppa John, are you still following this thread??!! :-)

If you are referring to what I think you are you can change the picture in your User Account in the Control Panel. Or, just click on the Start Menu then on the picture that displays with your user name at the top of the Start Menu.

If that is not what you mean then just ignore my post. :D

194186 2003-11-27 20:56:00 Susan B. No that is not the one, I think you are referring to the Icon picture that shows with M's name in User. This actually only appears on the XP m/c.It is the very first screen after bootup on the networked 98.It has a black background with stylised monitor screens in black/grey/white. The window on top of this is titled " Enter Network Password". It shows a network monitor symbol, Username box & Password box. We wish to change the background. Surely this must be in either the XP or the 98, rather than anything off the Web?? PJ Poppa John (284)
194187 2003-11-27 21:19:00 I can't remember way back to W98, but I suspect that at login time its a bit early in the Windows loading process to load graphics as a background?

That could be why the background is black?

Do you want to change the black screen background or only the background of the password dialog box itself?

194188 2003-11-27 22:44:00 On win9x the background + screen saver for the logon screen are the same as that of the default user (the one you used before setting up users).

You can access the default user by hitting cancel at the logon dialog, then change the wallpaper/screensaver the what you want and logout.

194189 2003-11-27 23:43:00 GF... Have discovered that the b/ground we are seeing is the "Bubbles" one which IS in the W98 b/ground choices.
Re your last Para. Yes to both, we want to change the black b/ground of the Password dialogue box.
We can do changes to the Desktop & Screensaver, no problem. PJ
