| 193814 | 2003-11-22 06:30:00 | I'm asked to install these Windows Updates at least once or twice per week. Are those updates really necessary? Where are they stored? what do they update? can I delete some of those updates because I think it's taken over quite some space by now. Thanks, |

| 193815 | 2003-11-22 06:47:00 | tough call . it's up to you . many believe the security updates are very important . other updates like program updates (media player, movie maker etc) are really only necessary if you use these programs and want the newer versions . i personally don't download drivers from windows update and they are usually very generic ones . . the updates are integrated into windows (maybe stored as files too - internet explorer is . . dunno about others) some updates can be unisntalled in control panel/add -remove progams |

They help keep your system up to date for protection against the ever increasing torrent of malicious code that virus creators launch . You need to separately update your chosen antivirus program as well of course . Other updates are for you to judge . You don't need to apply an update for "Windows Movie Maker" if you never use that feature as an example . |
