193814 2003-11-22 06:30:00 I'm asked to install these Windows Updates at least once or twice per week. Are those updates really necessary?
Where are they stored? what do they update? can I delete some of those updates because I think it's taken over quite some space by now.

Thanks,

193815 2003-11-22 06:47:00 tough call . it's up to you .

many believe the security updates are very important .

other updates like program updates (media player, movie maker etc) are really only necessary if you use these programs and want the newer versions .

i personally don't download drivers from windows update and they are usually very generic ones . .

the updates are integrated into windows (maybe stored as files too - internet explorer is . . dunno about others)

some updates can be unisntalled in control panel/add -remove progams

193816 2003-11-22 07:03:00 Critical Updates are a "good idea" and a wise thing to apply .
They help keep your system up to date for protection against the ever increasing torrent of malicious code that virus creators launch . You need to separately update your chosen antivirus program as well of course .

Other updates are for you to judge .

You don't need to apply an update for "Windows Movie Maker" if you never use that feature as an example .
