Hah? Mind its really targeted at Enterprises/Bussinesses.

:)

Like chill, I couldn't even get MD to install lol.

Ever tried Damn Small Linux? It's sort of a micro knoppix. Just boots off the cd.
Good for emergencies, say if your Hdd packs up you can still keep the ol beast functional

194092 2003-11-23 19:16:00 Oh I got it to install once.. but I had to work for about 30 mins trying to get X to work, and when I did it was only 256 color.. rebooted and was back to a screwed X config again? Dunno why, but I just couldnt be stuffed when I knew Redhat would work.

I have DSL, Knoppix, Adios, Cool Linux, Slackware Live... There are others... ;-)

From what I'm reading, Mandrake sounds like a better option for multimedia (this seems to be backed up by reviews I've read online...).

What are the problems involved in installing Mandrake...??

194095 2003-11-25 05:00:00 The installer is nowhere near as nice as Redhat/Fedora's.

To be honest, if you install Fedora, I'll post URL's on here for MPlayer and the mp3 plugin for XMMS, and Xine, and you'll have everything you'll need for media! Its all I've got on my Slackware system and I've got no troubles!!!

Just my opinion....

I've just downloaded Fedora....

Would you recommend Fedora over RH 9.0...??

194097 2003-11-25 08:17:00 Fedora was going to be Redhat 10 before they did the whole split thingy.. so Yeah, it is :-) Chilling_Silently (228)

I have had Fedora running for a wee while now (since its release) and I would also recommend Fedora core 1 (Yarrow) over RH 9. It is an upgrade over RH 9 so has many more improvements and fixes. There is not much documentation available yet for Fedora, but you can download and use the RH9 Manuals if you need to know how to do a specific task. They are freely available from here (www.redhat.com)

The mp3 plugin required for the XMMS 1.2.8 version in Fedora can be downloaded from here - XMMS MP3 Plugin for Red Hat Linux and Fedora Core (www.gurulabs.com).

Good news, I have finally go mplayer up and running.

I did get Xine installed, but I must have got something wrong, 'cause the video playback was buggy. If I tried to pause or stop playback, the video would go to slo-mo, while the sound continued on.

Nevermind, mplayer is working like a dream, and I am watching Matrix: Reloaded as we speak... err... type.

Thanks to all who offered advice. Most important thing I learnt, was that it can be done...!!!
