194367 2003-11-25 00:21:00 My computer has video onboard, Win ME. How can I connect more than one monitor to it? I want the same image to display on each of the monitors. Thanks Andrew B (867)
194368 2003-11-25 00:41:00 you need to buy a PCI graphics card kiwibeat (304)
194369 2003-11-25 00:48:00 Getting the same image on each monitor is not the normal way Windows handles dual monitors.

Normal mode is a desktop thats two monitors wide. You would need to get a card that supported "clone" mode as the easiest option.

194370 2003-11-25 01:16:00 I know having the same image on more than one monitor is not the normal way of doing it, but i want to show the same image on more than one monitor for a trade display; lots of monitors if possible. Can I install more then one video card at once to do it that way? Or is it possible to make like a multi plug box for the monitor output? Andrew B (867)
194371 2003-11-25 02:12:00 Interesting post.

I suspect you would run into strife at some point, and I don't know how "possible" cloning to multiple monitors would be.

One way that you might consider is this little kitset:
www.dse.co.nz

Its purported to split the video 4 ways. Worth a look into as it would take all the problems away. $50 makes it a very cheap option, and it could be driven by any PC?

194372 2003-11-25 03:07:00 Hi.
Hey - i don't mean to hijack this thread - but just a quick question regarding this issue:
I've got a GF FX 5200 vid card, and a PCI graphics card (2mb) with 2 monitors, can i run two monitors from the 2 cards?
And what would I be able to do with it?
Like can I play games acroos multi screens ect.

And like this guy asked - if I have a mobo with onbarod vid, but using an AGP vid card - can't i use the onbaord vid and run another monitor off this?

Should be able to, as long as Windows supports the type of cards for multiple video .

Only if that option is supported in the games, and I have no idea if it would be or not.

Depends if the motherboard supports it (some may disable the on-board video when AGP is used, some may not)

194374 2003-11-25 09:19:00 Thanks, Godfather, I'll check out DSE, that could be just what I need. Andrew B (867)
194375 2003-11-25 11:00:00 Probably the easier, and again cheaper option would be to ring a couple of hire companies, or places like VidCom, HiFi stores etc.

They specialise in doing this sort of thing and probably have the appropriate kit available a lot easier than most.

VidCom is my personal reccomendation, however they are Wellington based - Yellow pages are your friend.

194376 2003-11-25 19:34:00 prob with most pci cards is the fact that there are no drivers for them in winXP, if that is what you are using. The picture spliter sounds good havent heard of that one before, but if you have an agp slot, prob the easist solution would be to go out and get yourself a cheap dual monitor video card (something like ati 7500) i got one of these for about $100 and with a div->crt connector you can hook up one monitor to each port on back. Then the card comes with software to either have an extended desktop or to display the same thing on two monitors.

I tried the pci way but it required a bit more work, like finidng a old card and getting some software to do it with.
