1351386 2013-08-15 22:48:00 I would like to replace my 160 GB hard drive with a larger size – 500 GB. I have an Acer 5520 laptop running Win Vista that currently uses a 160GB Hitachi model HTS 542516K9SA00 STATA hard drive. I purchased a WD 500GB WD5000LPVX and installed it. I get a message “ NVIDIA PXE-E61 “Media test failure. Check Cable “. When I look at the Hitachi, it does not have pins where I would normally expect to see the “power” cable connection. The WD does have pins on the hard drive but there is no cable / connector in the laptop to receive the pins from the WD hard drive.
Do I need a different type of hard drive or is not possible to upgrade the hard drive size? Thanks

1351388 2013-08-15 23:30:00 Yes - the WD is the first hard drive in the bios. Still the same message. Swampy (2426)
1351389 2013-08-15 23:32:00 Check that boot / wake up on LAN or something like this is disabled in the BIOS as well Speedy Gonzales (78)
1351390 2013-08-15 23:49:00 I don't see any mention of " wake up " in the bios ? Swampy (2426)
1351391 2013-08-16 00:06:00 Check and see if there's an option to boot from lan or network. If it's there, disable it Speedy Gonzales (78)
1351392 2013-08-16 00:24:00 Is there actually an OS on the new hard drive? It will just skip over a non-bootable disk... inphinity (7274)
1351393 2013-08-16 00:31:00 You have to install OS - in your case Win Vista in order to boot from the new HDD. You'll need a Vista Install DVD to install the OS bk T (215)
1351394 2013-08-16 00:34:00 I believe the new hard drive is blank - no OS. I can set the boot to go to the CD and can I install Win 7 as I have an install disk ? Swampy (2426)
1351395 2013-08-16 00:39:00 Well you'll need to have an OS on it. Either image your existing drive across, or install a new OS, depending on your preference. inphinity (7274)
