1328418 2013-02-16 20:24:00 Seems some lucky yank has managed to take our entire jet fleet and scored an absolute bargain. I call bulls%#* on the fact they "have little military value" since we can still fly 60's Iroquois around like there's no tomorrow. That chum is just trying to soften the blow.

Heck, even 10 mil would have been cheap. Eight planes, in excellent condition, in complete working order.... words cannot describe

The replacement cost would be around 15m+ for EACH of them

1328420 2013-02-16 21:04:00 Draken are having an Airshow sometime soon in Florida honouring NZ aircraft Whenu (9358)
1328421 2013-02-16 21:15:00 We have much older aircraft flying in the wee Air Force we have left. Funny how little the RNZAF are mentioning their newest flying machine, although in the tradition of all previous Eurotrash flying things it is probably undergoing serious maintenance / modification, and will continue to do so until trashed. 1328422 2013-02-16 22:11:00 Ripped off alright.

This made me smile:
The Skyhawk squadron never saw combat, other than in 1976 when one shot 20mm cannon rounds across the bow of a Taiwanese fishing boat. What were the Taiwanese crew going to do - throw some fish at the Skyhawks -- Sorry mates, wrong type of "Hawk" :p

1328423 2013-02-16 22:23:00 Oh, years back one of the pilots was related to a teacher at our school.
They used to do a few dummy strafing and bombing runs here (no firing of course).

None of that excitement, now that we are no longer seen as a threat :D

1328424 2013-02-16 22:25:00 TheA4s were a typical ****ed defence acquisition like these off the top my head.

Andover most expensive heap of pommy **** ever built actually cost more per hour than a C130 and carried a lot less
Chuck Upham Navy ship rolled like a pig very wet ship totally unsuited for NZ
Patrol boats made too short for typical Southern Ocean swell spent most of their time in harbours waiting for weather to die down
Cessna 421 piston engine one dropped valve at WLN with piggy onboard and he never flew in them again
Second hand Leanders bought of a different batch. One narrow beam with an Ikara system and no gun.
Light tanks with Jaguar petrols engines in them.
The best Macchis with the Viper in it making it the only trainer jet without a Turbofan engine in the world including Russia and Eastern commie countries.
Keeping B47G3B1 helicopters so long guess what the 47 stands for?
Have to fix some clowns stupid american truck so I cant list another 20 or so cockups.
A4 a Navy plane with no means of self start with a avionics system like a Mini with a 10k stereo in it.
