1328018 2013-02-14 02:43:00 Just seeing what you guys do....

Do you prefer downloads or still like the material album?

You hear a band you like, would you buy the t-shirt and/or baseball cap?

What do you expect from a live gig?

You were throwing a party, you have a band play at it, what would you expect from the band?

Since we have a range of ages hear I'd interested in the answers.
Cheers all

1328019 2013-02-14 02:48:00 Hey Rob, always get t-shirts from gigs (hoodie too if I'm a BIG fan) don't wear hats. Live gig expect them to play a few of their known/famous songs. Anything to interat with the crowd is good. For local bands (or just starting out bands) expect their sound to be clear - nothing worse than going to a live gig and not being able to understand the lyrics or have the bass drowned all the other instruments out!

Downloads over material anyday - can't scratch an MP3 file ;)

No (I can never find T-shirts to fit right same with other "band" clothing)
Energy, clear sound, interaction, mix of old and new stuff
Clear sounds, professional (no tantys) polite to my guests, open to requests (from their own catalogue)

1328021 2013-02-14 03:31:00 All depends on the genre, artist and album in question. If the album is a well crafted one I buy it, if it only offers one or two tracks I download them.

Not into buying t-shirts and caps from bands - AS Roma football paraphernalia yes!

At a gig I don't expect much, but if the band are having fun so will I. Different if I go watch U2 though, then I expect a well blended band offering great sounds.

Never consider a band for home, I suffice :)

1328022 2013-02-14 03:56:00 Download only if its .flac otherwise I buy the CD still. I refuse to pay for MP3 as its rubbish. Used to buy T shirts back in the day doubt if I would now though gary67 (56)
1328023 2013-02-14 04:19:00 Cheers guys, great feedback, just trying to get the general knack on peoples wants these days, certainly has changed since I was a teen. Keep 'em coming. rob_on_guitar (4196)
1328024 2013-02-14 04:27:00 If the Bands good then a cd, or even better a dvd. Tour tshirts a must and normal tees if they have some cool artwork etc.

Live shows need to be energetic but simplified. Seen way to many bands get lost under special effect and try use the effects/mixing tricks they used on their albums. On a stage it sounds tacky and terrible. People want to see raw live music, hence going to a live show!

And its always cool to hear a new/unreleased song just so you feel a little lucky being there. Makes it seem less like their standard tour set and more like a one off thing that they want the fans to be a part of.

1328026 2013-02-14 04:44:00 Download support is the No. 1 key to getting out there these days! If you have digital distribution, allow people to choose what formate. There are people like gary who want the best possible audio, and there are others who just want to put it on their iPod and listen. Thankfully this is easy digitally!

As far as material goes, I have largely left it behind although I really like what Macklemore did for his album, mostly because it made it special. Unless there's something a bit 'more' to it, or if you only have a CD player, there really isn't much point in physical stuff. If I *really* love the band, having a special edition album is worth it, so put some effort in for the extra cost. Fans who love it will buy it. Most people just rip to their PC's and media players, so I think digital as your main distribution with a "special" physical fans copy. This is the Macklemore "Heist" thing: www.youtube.com

I'm personally not that into band merchandise

From a live gig? Depends, if it's you're good ole bar music I expect a wicked performance with many requests and encores. Really get the crowd rolling. I saw some diabolically awesome bar bands in Beijing, almost like the Chinese version of Mumford and sons. Just awesome. If it's a big stadium (well, not "stadium" but a venue where you aren't going to be getting close and personal), involve the crowd and just play your heart out!

I expect them to be themselves, play their hearts out and be prepared to take requests. It depends on if you are playing as "the band you are" or as "a band providing live music" ie, somone says play some coldplay and the next says throw in some muse and pink floyd. You'd have to be able to "switch character" in a way.
