1327868 2013-02-13 05:31:00 I just saw this quote on a website where the guy was criticizing the USA Reserve bank for its QE policy as it tries to boost employment with low interest rates. They say that businesses in the USA are not going to create new jobs because..

There is too much of everything. Too many restaurants, too many apps, too many empty dwellings (19 million at last count), too many malls, too many nail salons. There is too much junk for sale everywhere, from retail outlets to online to jumble/garage sales. The developed world is awash in overcapacity in every sector other than a relative handful of special equipment/services (deep-ocean drilling rigs, etc.)

Makes sense

1327872 2013-02-14 00:42:00 I just cleared out a large storage unit and brought all the crap home so I can go through it and chuck most of it out. DeSade (984)

1327875 2013-02-14 01:53:00 regarding the original quote...

I read a couple of years ago that some economist thought that our Global Financial Crisis was actually bought about because we (the world) make too much stuff.
They have to sell it so they expanded credit so people could buy it and that started the credit bubble - put it all on the house (and in the garage)

I saw one of those megafcatory docos about the Coke factory in Louisiana I think.
It was huge, they make just about all the canned coke for the whole USA and the machinery was just fantastic.
A few guys in the office watchign computers.
One guy watching a machine
Two or three guys on fork lifts and that was it.

Up the road 60 miles away was the factory where they made the cans.
It was just the same - huge and hardly anyone working there.

That is why "we" have such high unemployment - machinery and automation.
