Got called out last night.
Installed NOD32, 17 items found, 3 serious.

Also told her off for using "businessname"@xtra. Domain email was forwarded to xtra.

Changed it all the other way round, forward xtra to domain email, modify settings for both, adjust Outlook, had to login to the awful yahoo to do so, password was abc123!!

OMG......some people.....

1327362 2013-02-10 20:12:00 I suspect the Yahoo hack had nothing to do with the infections you found. The link in the phishing email (I got four of them from different people) just went to a site about making mega-dollars working from home.

The Herald article talks about "international spammers becoming increasingly savvy". Well, in my book, they weren't "savvy", they just exploited what must have been a gaping hole in Yahoo's security. Cracking passwords is easy, but first you need the email address list, which is held on Yahoo's servers. Then it's just a matter of running a script....

No doubt . But I didn't know about the hack last night - and even if I did, I would have scanned anyway, I know what a mess her PC is . . . . .
Bad passwords, no backups, sloppy maintenance . . . etc . I've been trying to tell her for years .

1327367 2013-02-11 00:10:00 one of our accountants got caught out by this last week. Got an email from our general manager asking to pay an account.... :groan: Gobe1 (6290)
1327368 2013-02-11 00:14:00 I have an Xtra email account, however I don't actively use it. I only have it because I'm a Telecom customer. I never retrieve email from it and almost never login to the webmail client and I DEFINITELY don't have contacts stored against the account.

The Yahoo interface is a pig's breakfast and their spam filtering is crap.

Nor can I understand why so many people use @xtra.co.nz as an email domain for their business, especially given to number of issues Yahoo has had over the years.

I can't understand how they're still in business...

1327369 2013-02-11 00:53:00 Considering it's $20-30 for a domain, and up until lately Gapps was free, you'd think people would aim for a bit more of a "Professional" look than just using @isp.co.nz emails on their business cards :p

Never been fond of Xtra OR Yahoo mail myself :-/

1327370 2013-02-11 00:57:00 I've had a lot spam emails come through over the weekend. Getting a bit sick of Xtra and the amout of spam that is coming into the inbox. Had a go at the call centre about all the crap that was coming in everyday and they said its not their fault. Told them thats their job to stop the spam from reaching my inbox. Didn't listen at all.

Am considering changing ISP soon if it doesn't get sorted.
