1328378 2013-02-20 03:44:00 I have no problem with this thread whatsoever, FWIW. I even said that, twice.

Indeed you did and there was no problem with the thread as such.

The problem was with the few who wanted you to anonymously act on their behalf.

Tell them you’ve got more to do than “Wet Nurse” them and I’m sure "normal transmission" will resume.

Also, thank you for clarifying that I have never contacted a Mod complaining about anything let alone change my stance on what I have posted.

It seems others have, but I don’t wish to be associated with them.

Nobody asked me to act. But I am the person with whom the buck stops. The volume of people expressing frustration about the sheer number of threads on a single topic is an issue which I decided to raise because it affects the number of people who find the forum welcoming.

I had hoped that the response might be something like "oh, sorry it's an issue, we'll try and ensure that there's fewer posts on this topic in future, how about we compile them into a single weekly thread like you suggested a couple of months back?"

Instead, it's been a real eye-opener.

Oh dear, here was me thinking we were making some progress .

On one hand you say: “Nobody asked me to act”

On the other you say: “The volume of people expressing frustration about the sheer number of threads on a single topic is an issue which I decided to raise because it affects the number of people who find the forum welcoming” .

Am I expected to believe that this “Volume of People” were just expressing their frustration without asking you to act?

Then there is the matter of “the sheer number of threads on a single topic” . I’ve never seen multiple threads on a single topic . Maybe you could point me to them?

All this aside, it intrigues me how some of these arguably controversial threads attract so many viewers, where as others go virtually unnoticed . I get the impression that there are a lot watching with interest but not wishing to join in .

Don’t hold back Guy’s, call it how you see it .

You can believe whatever you find pleasing to you.

Not one person has said to me "can you do something about this?" or equivalent. I'm provided with information, I decide to act on it, or I decide to irgnore it.

Often, an expression of frustration is a lone voice, and I can sympathise, but not consider it of sufficient weight that it would affect the smooth running of the forums. Sometimes a lone voice reporting spam is enough to get me to delete it within seconds.

I don't expect that everyone who has sent me a message knew about each of the others, and, as I say, it's the volume that persuaded me to act, rather than the content of any specific message. Sometimes the message is just "I've decided to leave rather than read another..." which definitely is not imploring me to act on their behalf - too late - but means I more carefully consider any other similar issues.

One person's single topic is another's vista of diversity. Enough people have seen the current situation as multiple threads on a single topic that I feel it's respectful of the entire forum to take their wishes into consideration.

1328382 2013-02-20 05:48:00 FWIW, my :2cents:

I personally find these topics very interesting, and I would certainly not like to see a reduction in the number of them. However, I can see how it would tiring for those who, no matter what their political views, dislike such a number of threads.

Perhaps BM, Prefect, and Cicero could each make a thread where they post their links etc, similar to the Music Thread. For the people who only make political threads occasionally (for example LL), they could make a thread each time.

1328383 2013-02-20 06:11:00 Why do you include Cicero in that motley crew? His are usually the most intelligent (along with my own ) comments on any subject . Perhaps some need to take the advice I have just offered to Prefect on the 'Whaling' thread .

Lighten up guys, this is getting ridiculous . As Groucho said " I wouldn't join any club which would have me as a member!' Don't turn this forum into a b***h session to which nobody (as well as Groucho) wants to belong . Count to 10 before your next post .
