| 1327865 | 2013-03-29 22:01:00 | I bought a new laptop a couple of weeks ago with W8 installed and it has been a bit of a steep learning curve after using XP for so many years, and Android for two years. After a week or so, I installed Classic Shell to get the Start Menu back to some semblance of familiarity and that has made life easier. I am using the laptop through a Toshiba Dynadock so I can use my familiar keyboard and the big monitor, and sometimes it does not want to play nicely - occasionally (and only with Apps) the app will show up on the laptop screen instead of the main monitor and I have to get out of it and start again. It could be the Toshiba software rather than Win8 of course. I loathe the tiles and the way they are displayed. Given that I have certain obsessional qualities, I want to group the tiles in a sequence that is logical to me, but each time I move one into a better position, it throws all of the others out. I can't even get them into an alphabetical sequence. Compare this with my Nexus 7 where I can arrange the tiles into folders and a sequence that makes sense to me and makes it easier to find each one rather than having to go through the lot to find the one I want. I just find Classic Shell so much simpler. I am a trifle awed by the speed of start up and shut down with W8 compared with my XP set up which had probably got pretty messed up over the years. However, on balance I would have preferred to get a laptop with W7 but the only one I wanted to buy within my budget was loaded with W8. Oh well, I guess I will learn how to drive it, but I definitely prefer Android over all other OS that I have used thus far. |

You can drag an app to the other screen though. The upcoming Windows Blue update will fix this. Personally I don't bother with Classic Shell or anything else though, I've figured out the Start screen and its quirks. |
