1350841 2013-08-17 09:26:00 Hi Jen
Don't know if I am understanding this correctly, but RAW files are quite normal. I shoot in RAW most of the time. Some viewers can't handle them, but Irfanview certainly can (also my Photoshop, of course).
However since the memory now lost, this is a bit academic !

What a shame !! :dogeye:

Jen is talking about the file system reporting as RAW, not the RAW camera image format.

I had a suspicion that things might be more complicated than I thought. Learned another new thing today, thanks inphinity.

1350843 2013-08-17 19:50:00 Just an update. I got an external USB carder reader to eliminate a problem with the laptop card reader, and the card was not recognised in that either. I was unable to get an image of the card. It is now 100% toast (and buttered!).

Cheers for everyone's advice. :)

1350844 2013-08-22 23:45:00 Just a note of my recent experience with a SD card. Might not help Jen, but it may help others.

I was writing files to a brand new micro SD card when I got a windows 8 blue screen! The error was FAT_FILE_SYSTEM. After rebooting, the SD card reported as RAW and properties reported 0 bytes.

It wouldn't format and I couldn't delete the partition. But I ran Easus Partition Master and told it to check the card. Amongst other things, it seemed to run chkdsk and it repaired the partition header stuff and fixed a faulty file entry and after that the card was fine with data intact (apart from the faulty file). I wonder whether just running chkdsk myself would have worked? Dunno.

Sorry about your write-off, Jen.

1350847 2013-08-26 07:05:00 I wonder if this could help: hackaday.com interesting. Would need to have an Arduino card plus the ability to get it hooked up. Jen (38)
