1350831 2013-08-08 10:18:00 Its actually possible the SD card is damaged, thus causing some of the problems. I have several recovery programs but they are all paid software, so it depends on how important the data actually is to be recovered if you wanted to buy them. One I have used a lot is getdataback www.runtime.org .

In the past I have used www.minitool-partitionrecovery.com --- it cant do any harm to try, as the software is installed on the Main HDD not the SD card. No idea if it will work or not, sometimes if a drives damaged you would need to send it to professional data recovery places = $$

1350832 2013-08-08 10:19:00 Did we try PhotoRec yet? inphinity (7274)
1350833 2013-08-08 13:33:00 +1 for PhotoRec. It works very well.

I screwed up a partition table a while back and it managed to fix my mess. Regardless of the state of the partitions, etc, it will find any files that can be reconstructed.

But it does sound to me like the SD card is toast in any case.

1350834 2013-08-08 19:26:00 I've actually been trying to run the Mini Tool Partition Recovery app that Wainuitech suggested. I left it running over night and it was very, very slowly checking the card, but flickering between 'not-responding' and running every 30 secs or so.

However, this morning it had locked up on 'not-responding' so I am not sure how far it got.

I will try PhotoRec this evening. :)

1350835 2013-08-08 20:39:00 No harm in trying different software :) They are only scanning/ reading a drive not actually writing to them. Some work some don't, often recovered data using one piece of software, yet the next time another works better.

Lockups shouldn't be caused by simply blowing away a partition or lose of formatting - so something else seems to be happening. Something happened ( Obviously) to cause it to change to RAW in the first place.

1350836 2013-08-09 20:50:00 Well I ran PhotoRec for over 12 hours and on pass 0 it just kept reporting bad sectors. Pass 1 started but then locked up partway through. It found no files during the time it did run.

Might try to grab an image of the card and run the tools on that when I have a free moment.

Thanks to all. :)

1350837 2013-08-10 00:07:00 I've been watching but I can't help with data recovery so I haven't offered any advice.
However it occurred to me today to mention not all card readers are compatible with all cards, your initial post makes it seem like the card is either damaged or corrupted but whenever possible if you can use the camera itself as a card reader it's the safest way.

Also I've seen cards unreadable in a PC when formatted in a camera and Vice Versa so that could be part of the problem. It does sound like the card is possibly dead but trying more than one reader might be worth a go.

1350838 2013-08-10 00:17:00 Didn't read the thread but I would image the whole card with Gnu ddrescue and then scan the image.

Make sure it's not your card reader that's gone faulty too.

1350840 2013-08-17 09:14:00 Hi all,

I have a 2G SD memory card showing memory card error in the camera. I put it in my laptop card reader and tried to run chkdsk:
chkdsk F: /f
The type of the file system is RAW.
CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives.

Is there any way I can restore the file system and recover the photos? Looked a bit online, but it is minefield for dodgy programs and suggestions. I welcome yours (non-dodgy suggestions). :D

Thanks.
Hi Jen
Don't know if I am understanding this correctly, but RAW files are quite normal. I shoot in RAW most of the time. Some viewers can't handle them, but Irfanview certainly can (also my Photoshop, of course).
However since the memory now lost, this is a bit academic !

What a shame !! :dogeye:
