2013-08-20 00:07:00 | Didn't you switch to Flip? Then it's not Telecom's problem. You wouldn't buy a TV from Dick Smith and expect Noel Leeming to give you the refund when it's faulty ;)How inane. | Greg (193) | |
2013-08-20 00:25:00 | How inane. Er, excuse me? You're the one implying Telecom should fix Flip's fault.... Sure, Toyota, please cover the warranty on my Nissan that I didn't buy from you.

Sure, Toyota, please cover the warranty on my Nissan that I didn't buy from you.Oh grief! :groan: My reference re Telecom was that they may have provided a useful answer to my problem... not that they fix it! Sheesh! And as it turns out Chorus were the only people who could provide some intelligible response to the problem. @ some of the posts here! |

2013-08-20 10:06:00 | Here's a quote from someone who knows, mostly, without actually being here: Yep, it sounds like a wiring fault in the house. 1) When you call the new landline number on your mobile, you can hear that it rings in your mobile earpiece. 2) Your landline phone works because you have tested it successfully elsewhere other than your new home. 3) None of the jackpoints in your new home work - the same non-ringing results. So, this means that if as Flip says that their side is all done, then the connection from the roadside of the property back to your new home is suspect. It means that the wiring is either broken or the connections between the point of entry into your new home is disconnected, thus needing a technician to physically remake the connections. Another possibility is that a roadside cabinet (not necessarily near your new home) has not had the interconnection put through, or it has been "robbed" by another connection for another user - can happen if lazy technicians are looking for good spares to fix a fault for a customer. So that's some of the possibilities. However, I would have thought that Flip would have sent a person to your new home to physically ensure everything is working from within as part of the installation and signoff process. This may or may not be stated on your contract.

2013-08-20 20:25:00 | Hmm . How come no-one suggested a simple call to Telecom or Chorus even to find out that the phone line might have been disabled at the nearest box? My reference re Telecom was that they may have provided a useful answer to my problem . . . not that they fix it! Sheesh! And as it turns out Chorus were the only people who could provide some intelligible response to the problem . Because when you sign up with whatever provider - they are the ones that deal with your issue - regardless of what that might be - you wiring - the exchange - the cabinet - whatever . They send Chorus or whichever contractors out to check things out - you are not expected to contact them directly . My son had an issue a while back with the phone, took a bit of back and forth and in the end they said they'd charge him to come out . I listened to what he described the symptoms as being and told him not to worry, it wasn't at his end . Sure enough, it was a fault at the exchange . But all he had to do was ring his provider .

2013-08-20 21:33:00 | It should be quite easy to figure out where the problem is by answering these questions: 1. Is this a brand new house been built, never had a telephone line connected and this is the first time its being put into use ? 2. Is this an existing house, that has had a previous connection ( say with telecom) and use to work perfectly fine ? If its #1, then its possible who ever did the wiring has done something wrong and its not set up correctly, they need to come back and fix it, or you pay to have it fixed by someone else. If on the other hand its #2, then its not a problem with any wiring in the house, unless its been altered in some way that's caused a problem. If it used to work with another Telco, then the lines inside the house are fine, the problem is either at the exchange or a cabinet someplace.

2013-08-21 18:17:00 | Lo and Behold... Its working! Yeah it cost me the $201.25 upfront. But the problem lay outside the house, so the b******s better refund me the money. We'll see. Thanks tons guys (and gurls) for the help so far. This has been a bit of an experience :clap

2013-08-21 21:57:00 | Glad it's working. Still find it hard to believe Flip want that cost paid up front. They must run very close to the edge... | wratterus (105) | |
2013-08-22 02:47:00 | Glad it's working. Still find it hard to believe Flip want that cost paid up front. They must run very close to the edge...Thanks, and yeah I agree. But... now my phone is working great but absolutely no Internet! Bugger, I hate it when Chill is right! Anyway, their helpdesk is a non event, but at least they've agreed to refund my 200 bucks. So meantime I'll struggle along to work this shizza out myself somehow.
