1351396 2013-08-16 00:50:00 Hey Thanks all. I have to go to work now so I'll have a go at following your suggestions tomorrow and let you know how I get on. Cheers. Swampy (2426)
1351397 2013-08-16 23:24:00 Hello I’m back again. I followed the suggestions above and booted the lap top from the Win 7 installation dick. It created the partition and got to the point “Expanding Windows Files 0% “and then re-booted. And appears to have gone back to the beginning. I did this three times and it did not progress past the “Expanding Windows files”. The USB mouse works OK. Any further suggestions here please Swampy (2426)
1351398 2013-08-16 23:31:00 It maybe a corrupted Win7 disk. Where did you get the disk? bk T (215)
1351399 2013-08-17 00:48:00 I purchased it. I have used it on an installation once before and it appeared to work OK. Swampy (2426)
1351400 2013-08-17 02:38:00 It would appear. to my limited knowledge , that the Acer Aspire 5520 will only accept a 160 GB hard drive as the bios is not flashable. Does seem correct to you folks ? Swampy (2426)
1351401 2013-08-17 02:45:00 The BIOS like most systems should be flashable. What BIOS is on it now?? 1.33? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1351402 2013-08-17 04:05:00 Does your new WD 500GB HDD detected correctly in BIOS?

If BIOS detected correctly, I would get another W7 install disk to try out. You may download a copy if you can't borrow it from someone else.

1351403 2013-08-17 22:00:00 Hi - I will borrow another WIN 7 disk and try it out. May take a couple of days but I'll come back and let you know how I go - Thanks All Swampy (2426)
1351404 2013-08-17 22:23:00 You can also try cleaning the DVD. Even though its New, some of them need a wipe to clean off a sort of film thats there, the optical drive may not be able to read it correctly.

Had that many times, I give them a clean with a soft tissue and isopropyl alcohol.

1351405 2013-08-18 00:08:00 Just a reminder, if you've used the Win7 disks to install on another machine earlier (assuming that you also used the Product Key to activate your copy), you will need another set of Product Key to activate Win7 after the installation.

You may use the same DVD to install Win7 but activation is another story.
