| 1350821 | 2013-08-07 10:28:00 | ...oops. :blush:I know you were trying to be helpful, but I took your advice as kosher. I should have confirmed it myself what the commands would do. Meanwhile, EaseUS Data Recover is not detecting the memory card. I can see (but not touch) it under "My Computer". Update: the Partition Recovery Wizard found the device OK, so just seeing what it makes of it. |

| 1350822 | 2013-08-07 10:51:00 | OK, it is looking more like the SD card is toast. Bit of a shame because it's my Dad's camera memory card and he had all his photos on it. Annoyed I didn't take the photos off it earlier for him. Thanks for all your help anyway. :) |

| 1350823 | 2013-08-07 10:51:00 | ...oops. :blush: I'll quietly go cry in the corner. :p Just some advice ;) ( this goes for ANYONE) --- if some sort of action is suggested, it pays to put a WARNING, and make it very clear before hand, esp if the action could run the risk of losing data. Think of it like, if the person giving the advice was doing it for themselves would they look to see what could happen first ?? Safer to give warning, or even put something like - Not to sure if this will work, or what will happen than having to back peddle. Commands in Diskpart can be VERY powerful - Heres a list and descriptions of the options diskpart commands (www.computerhope.com). Being command prompt, theres no " are you sure" prompts - its all or nothing. OK, it is looking more like the SD card is toast. Is there some sort of message ? |

| 1350824 | 2013-08-07 11:39:00 | Is there some sort of message ?No files found (or similar) after Partition Recovery ran. I'm going to take a look under Fedora tomorrow and see if anything useful pops up. |

Hmmmmmm The clean command in diskpart may have done what its meant to. Clean = Clear the configuration information, or all information, off the disk. Mind you, the data recovery program still should have seen something as clean doesn't actually overwrite the data. |

| 1350826 | 2013-08-07 21:18:00 | Since the original drive had a problem to start with ( Changed to RAW) the following may or may not work, use at your own risk after you have checked with Fedora . Open diskpart again, select the drive that is the Card, assign the drive . Make sure you get the right drive undo-diskpart-clean-recover-lost-disk-or-partition-in-windows-7/ ( . wordpress . com/2012/11/05/undo-diskpart-clean-recover-lost-disk-or-partition-in-windows-7/" target="_blank">winhowto . wordpress . com) Depending on what has happened to the Card originally will depend if those commands work or not . When you said the clean command "hung" before, something isn't right, clean often only takes a couple of seconds no matter the size of the drive . That Software I linked usually is very good, had a persons USB drive here once, it was really important the data got recovered, it was only a 4 GB drive, but took 2 days to scan it (the drive was knackered basically) got most of the data back . |

| 1350827 | 2013-08-07 22:26:00 | Just as an aside, PhotoRec (www.cgsecurity.org) is a good recovery tool for photos/files on memory cards + it's free :D | autechre (266) | ||

Fedora is not liking the card either - but it could just be the card reader as that Fedora is several generations old now and I am not sure if it ever did detect the card reader . Back to Windows . . . Diskpart was taking several minutes to open and for each command to run . I couldn't get past the assign letter . I think the memory card is septic . :rolleyes: DISKPART> list disk Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt -------- ---------- ------- ------- --- --- Disk 0 Online 233 GB 0 B Disk 1 Online 1910 MB 1908 MB DISKPART> select disk 1 Disk 1 is now the selected disk . DISKPART> assign letter=Z There is no volume specified . Please select a volume and try again . Thanks again for everyone's contribution - it is appreciated . :) |
