| 1327791 | 2013-02-13 10:03:00 | Back to kids with individual cakes and lit candles... Now lets see, a dozen young, excited kids at a party. Presents and flammable wrapping paper srewn everywhere. And they want to put a lit candle into every kids hands? Kids that have never before ever handled fire? Sure, this might mean they only get their own spittle onto their own cakes. It may also result in kids, presents, homes getting burnt. Hair getting burnt, heads getting scarred. Happy birthday from the burn ward, sweetie. Next will be the death of the candle, and we'll be embedding little electric candles into cakes... turn off your candle and eat your cake now, honey. |

I read about the birthday cup cake scenario. It seems that no longer does Mother know best, just a teacher, with possibly a dozen different hang-ups of their own. When my grandson in Australia turned 9 at the end of January his mother took up a box of ice blocks for his class. They were enjoyed by all and there were no complaints. |

The birthday cake - the only thing I wondered about was the potential for unvaccinated kids to possibly spread things, but most daycare centres in Aus won't take kids that haven't been vaccinated. So ... bit of a headscratcher. Seems it's been in the guidelines since 2006, and nobody thought to kick up a fuss until last week? |
