1327372 2013-02-11 01:40:00 Nor can I understand why so many people use @xtra.co.nz as an email domain for their business, especially given to number of issues Yahoo has had over the years.

I can't understand how they're still in business...

Yes. My point to her exactly.
It's not professional.
It's a dog anyway.

Apparently it's still going on, all over the news still, people who have xtra emails who haven't used them in years getting the issue...

Not to mention using it and a password of abc123...I asked her what her banking password is....she sensibly didn't tell me, but I told her to go change that too and make it something complicated.

1327373 2013-02-11 02:12:00 It's amazing how sticky the branding of Xtra is (for Telecom), considering Yahoo started hosting that service (badly) for Telecom in 2007. johcar (6283)
1327374 2013-02-11 08:51:00 Our operations manager sent us a nice email this morning, advising us about the spam. She was so thoughtful, and gave us the web addresses contained in the spam, so we knew which ones to ignore. She had them all nicely hyperlinked! wotz (335)
1327375 2013-02-11 09:03:00 Gmail caught 5 spams from Yahoo but from no one I knew. mikebartnz (21)
1327376 2013-02-11 09:11:00 Seems theres more to this phishing than just that -- It appears the links can contain malware as well.

Had several calls from people who have had these mails, and they cant change passwords as Xtra suggest- the PC simply crashes.

Interestingly enough just about all the people I have had call have had MSE or Norton. Seems the Antivirus software is not picking up the links as Phishing links.

Had one person call to ask what to do since their Nod32 apparently went nuts when they got the mails arriving and promptly stopped them.

She took a screen shot and emailed me, it was very similar to This here (kb.eset.com) I had only installed V6 just over a week ago - guess its paid for its self already ;)

Bollocks. I changed hers - she had 2 xtra ones. no problem. If the PC crashes there's some other issue. Probably need your services.....

1327378 2013-02-11 20:54:00 Bollocks you reckon ? Explain this then -- Just got a call from a person - New laptop they purchased on SUNDAY was only put on the internet Monday morning, ( prior to that they were looking over W8 getting used to it) They have Norton INC On the Laptop, they setup their email account - and one of the first mails through was the spams they clicked on one of those links in a mail, within a few seconds the laptop locks up, wont run correctly, tried to run Norton it tries to run but she says its obvious something kills it.

Its one of many calls now all the same symptoms - so its not bollocks as you put it. Just because you can change ONE password doesnt mean a lot.

As reported:
"I went to change my password, but that kept on crashing and when I went to delete my contact lists - which is what the hack had programmed their malware to exploit - I couldn't delete the addresses." www.stuff.co.nz

Edited: Another call same problem, and while on that call, a message from someone else describing lockups after clicking on one of those mails.

Bollocks eh !!

Nortons. You and I know Nortons causes all sorts of problems like that.
My customer had AVG until I removed it and added NOD. I was able to change her password without issue. You did say the password changing was the problem.....

1327380 2013-02-11 21:12:00 AND the Pc crashes -- Read and say it all, not just parts that suit your purposes.

So far 7 calls now, all the same thing - clicked on those links and computers crash or lockup within seconds.
