1351420 2013-08-16 07:42:00 Further to my thread about signing up with Flip, I was supposed to be connected a few days ago. Flip helpdesk insisted that my line is good to go, but there's no dialtone.

I phoned my new number, which appeared to ring, but of course no sound through my home phone. I've tried it on all 3 of the phone jacks in the house and nada. The phone works fine at my friend's house.

Flip want to charge me $200+ IN ADVANCE to have a technician come to check my wiring! If the fault is outside the house then they'll refund me the money. If its discovered to be faulty inside then no refund. Bugger that.

So... does anyone know who I can go to to have the problem checked... eg any electrician?

1351422 2013-08-16 10:55:00 Is this a SIP line, or a plain old copper phone line? Problem is, unless you've got a mate who can do it cheap or something, most qualified techs who can do it will be after $120 - $150 for a callout fee anyway, which you will not get back regardless of the issue. Is your internet connection working? I can only really suggest switching to, say, Telecom... heh. inphinity (7274)
1351423 2013-08-16 11:44:00 Hate to say it, but you were warned :pDur. The problem isn't what I
I was warned about, so the comment doesn't help at all.

I'll call an electrician or two to see what qualified solution I can get.

1351424 2013-08-16 13:43:00 I know but at least I feel better.

As mentioned, do you have your internet currently connected?

1351426 2013-08-17 02:01:00 I've mentioned before electricians are not always the best option for phone wiring, some of them don't even know what's wrong with split pairs.

If you see a chorus van in your area you could try and offer them some cash or something to do a homer, some of those guys are on codes and essentially working for themselves.

I was warned about,

What, that they have **** after sales service? I'm pretty sure I've banged about that forever.

1351428 2013-08-19 09:36:00 Hmm. How come no-one suggested a simple call to Telecom or Chorus even to find out that the phone line might have been disabled at the nearest box? It could take just a modest callout fee to have the line re-enabled. Ahhh. Tomorrow I'll put it to the test and report back. Greg (193)

Didn't you switch to Flip? Then it's not Telecom's problem. You wouldn't buy a TV from Dick Smith and expect Noel Leeming to give you the refund when it's faulty ;)
