1350701 2013-08-06 20:15:00 Hi guys, just searching for a bit of wisdom here. Lastnight I came into my office and moved my mouse to take my pc out of hibernation. As soon as I did so I got a BSOD and the computer just stopped (I had to shut it down and restart it manually). I restarted the computer and it was fine for a while and then it appeared again on start up. So I ran the windows startup diagnostic (should know better as they never fix anything!!) and the computer ran fine again for a while. Eventually I decided to shut it down for the evening and when I did so it appeared for a final time (just need to add here it came up with different codes and messages each time - asking me to check software and hardware installations - I haven't added any new hardware for a while and the only software I have added recently was spyhunter anti malware). Anyway when it appeared the final time I manually shut down the computer again and then tried to restart it - Nothing! It would power up but that's as far as it would go. No beep codes or anything. I removed all of the USB attachments from the I/O and removed and reseated the memory still nothing. Unplugged a second hard drive and tried different RAM that I had spare. I even tried to restart without the RAM to see if there was any beep codes - Nothing! It is an old motherboard - Asus Striker Extreme. I don't think it's the power supply as it's not that old (Corsair TX750). I'm hoping someone might be able to shed some light. Do I need a new motherboard??? heelllpppp!! clevertrev (12879)
1350702 2013-08-06 20:56:00 Try unplugging it from the wall, resetting the cmos, and waiting 10 minutes.
If it boots remember to go into the BIOS and set boot order etc to how you like it. It's a shot in the dark but occasionally they respond to this.

Unfortunately if the PC is not even getting to the BIOS there's no way to diagnose much without parts to swap around, you may have to take it in somewhere for repair.
Disconnect absolutely everything except power from the motherboard and try again, then if that doesn't work try RAM sticks individually and in each slot.
check the heatsink is attached properly and the fans are all spinning.

1350703 2013-08-06 21:08:00 Might help if you could tell us what the BSOD said, and whether it showed the name of a driver or file. But, since its dead now, you cant. That spyhunter maybe spyware itself . Or it doesnt do anything useful.

I would try another PSU if you've got a spare. You'll soon find out if thats the prob

1350704 2013-08-07 09:21:00 Thanks for your help guys. I've tried clearing the CMOS and resetting the motherboard to factory settings using the RESET button on the board and nothing! Have disconnected and removed the RAM, soundcard and graphics card and still no beeps or BIOS. Will endeavour to get my hands on another PSU to see if that is the problem for next steps.

Cheers

1350705 2013-08-07 22:19:00 Also disconnect ALL the cables, especially internal USB to front panel type cable. Also disconnect Power on & reset cables (power it on using a screwdriver across the 2 pins..be carefull . Also disconnect keyboard, mouse etc etc .

Its a long shot but worth trying.
As a last resort pull the motherboard out of the case for testing, could be a screw under it or a mb standoff in the wrong place (it happens)
Also check the rear onboard USB ports arnt broken somehow , have a close look at them
