1350692 2013-08-06 08:07:00 I really do need some help in purchasing a laptop.

I only need a (min) 128gb SSD, a (min)13.3" and ideally Windows 8 Touch. Screen must be min of 1440x900.

As a household, we do a lot of web surfing, Skyping and minimal Microsoft Office 2010. We run Moneydance for our home accounts.

I have a Seagate NAS 110 which I am assuming the MacBook Air will see through the home network.

I typically keep a PC around 4.5-6 years.

1) From pbtech ($1,771.00 on special)
www.pbtech.co.nz

2) From Noel Leeming ($1,799.00)
www.noelleeming.co.nz

3) From Yoobee ($1,589.00)
nz.shop.yoobee.com

I have never owned a Mac and would my (perhaps) last choice. Nevertheless, there is a long battery life and a Intel HD Graphics 5000 card.
How do I tell the Samsung's apart?
Is the Air a good buy?

Hope you can help.

1350693 2013-08-06 08:17:00 If you want touch you can rule out any MacBook as none of them have it. ;)There doesn't seem to be any difference between the two Samsungs so go for the cheaper one. pcuser42 (130)
1350694 2013-08-06 09:26:00 Do not buy now unless you are going for the MBA. Wait until Haswell chips start hitting the market. There will be very little difference in performance [graphics excluded], but there will be a huge difference in battery life and this is worth the wait. Cato (6936)
1350695 2013-08-06 10:08:00 The linked MBA has a 4th gen haswell cpu...

Also take a look at the Lenovo Carbon X1 (bit more expensive iirc)

unless you are going for the MBA

1350697 2013-08-06 11:32:00 Out of those three I'd but the MBA as it is the latest chip.
Also with a screen that size I don't think getting a high res screen, like 1920x1080, is a good idea as the fonts just get too small.
Yes you can increase the size of the fonts but it starts making the windows look strange.

You need to be aware a MAC is not a PC.
You will have to buy Office for MAC & check that Moneydance & other programs you use have a MAC version (looks like there is a MAC Moneydance)
They may also be some periphials/hardware you have that isnt MAC compatable (I dont think that would really be likely though)

Having said that , almost every who goes MAC seems to love it.

1350699 2013-08-07 07:47:00 Thank you for all the replies.
I have ordered an MBA.
I do know what I am getting myself into and am 100% positive that there will be challenges to overcome.

OT: The way that MAC is emphasised in caps, makes me think of the cosmetic brand. ^^
