1350572 2013-08-04 11:54:00 Wondering if others have had issue with the Telecom Pace Business modem? I had a site that had a new one of these modems but a ping of a local host name was trying to resolve to an offsite DNS server. This killed the POS software that was using host names to communicate with the backoffice software.

Had the modem replaced and same issue with new one. Put a dirty old Telecom domestic modem and works fine.

I have also heard from someone that had the same issue.

1350574 2013-08-04 12:21:00 Why would the devices be using external DNS? The devices (PC's) are set to DHCP. The POS software uses host names to communicate within the LAN. With the domestic modem pinging the host name replies with the correct IP of the client. With the Pace modem the same ping replies 64.00.0.0 (can't remember the exact IP but it started with 64) and times out. It is forwarding the request to the WAN when it shouldn't. berryb (99)

Because the previous generation of those simply forwarded the external DNS server it finds on to it's DHCP clients, and I don't know if the model you have does the same.

1350577 2013-08-07 11:33:00 I figured that was the case but didn't find the posts when I did a quick search. Level 2 support at Telecom stated they new nothing of the issue and said since they already supplied 2 modems then they could not offer anything else. Yes I could sell my client a better modem but this is a small 4 PC network and it is suppose to be a business modem. Piece of crap in my view. berryb (99)
