1350511 2013-08-02 11:09:00 Hi Team

Some moons ago I downloaded a PDF relating to vintage radio repairs, and after reading it, I filed it away for future reference .

I came across it again today while sorting some other files, but when I tried to read it again I was asked for a password .

That didn't happen before, so I suppose it is possible that I got a time-limited download or some such, but there is nothing
proprietary in it so there was no good reason to password protect it . There is no 'author' or other identification details on it
either, so I can't go back to square one, and the file name draws a blank on Google!

I don't know if it is encrypted, which I guess would be the killer, but is there any way to open it, maybe with a non-Adobe
PDF reader perhaps? It seems a shame to just delete it .

Cheers

Get it here:

Worth a try.

Also try taking ownership of the file.

1350514 2013-08-03 00:16:00 Hey Billy... if you have a Gmail account, set up a Google Drive - save it to there, and from there it should be able to be opened. Greg (193)

Hum..............

Sumatra threw up the same "password required" message, and Google Drive turned me down flat because my browser is out of date. Maybe the file was readable on a time-limited basis? I've had success on that front with some issues simply by winding my computer clock back in time, but it hasn't always worked. I'll try going back to the date I saved it and see if that helps.

Nope! That didn't work either. :(

1350516 2013-08-03 10:30:00 I think the Sumatra download came with a payload. I downloaded the portable version onto a new USB stick then after I closed Sumatra, a Canon Printer Survey popped up and the USB stick was flashing away like mad. When I killed the survey, the stick stopped flashing.

Most odd!

1350520 2013-08-11 12:05:00 Well, all options seem to have failed!

I couldn't send it to anybody for assistance (thanks for the offers) because at 20MB, the file size was too big.

So, I dipped a toe in the dark side and tried a series of free programs, all of which offered trial versions capable of decrypting password protected and encrypted PDFs.

Believe it or not, none of the above could even get past the password stage, they just asked me to enter it for them! Like I needed a password cracker and decryption because......??? :annoyed:

If that is the best that the Black Hat and White Hat brigades can do, then perhaps I should have called the CIA for help, they seem to be able to read the insides of people's eyelids to see what they were reading last month!

Bit of a bugger really, it was a very good resource.

Cheers
