194987 2003-11-26 22:02:00 Hi there, i am wanting to change the order in which my services and software loads when booting up windows xp pro - is this possible? I had a quick look in msconfig, but didnt see anything that made me think 'ahhh'.

I am wanting to make my wireless network card drivers load last, as they appear to take awhile to load on my pc, and this stalls my computer abit.

thanks for any help.

194988 2003-11-27 04:32:00 I thought I saw somewhere once where you could change the startup order but looking through the Services Help files there is nothing in there so maybe it was something else that could be customised.

Someone else here may know more though, so a bump up the page is in order. :-)

194991 2003-11-28 03:30:00 I don't think this would help, but the network settings are loaded prior to reaching the winlogon screen. So what is the service that is required, that is slowing loading process? Kame (312)

Try the MS KnowledgeBase articles:

"HOWTO: Control Device Driver Load Order" (support.microsoft.com)
and "How to Delay Loading of Specific Services" (support.microsoft.com)

also may want to look at "CurrentControlSet\Services Subkey Entries" (support.microsoft.com)
and possibly search in the MS KB for "REG: Network Services Entries, Part n" where n is 1 through 8.

Note I have used vbs scripts using WMI to do similar things but be cautious as there are a number of service dependencies (See the SC command line utility tool)

Cheers, Babe.
