194922 2003-11-26 16:06:00 Is Black ice a very good firewall? yingxuan (3330)
194923 2003-11-26 17:36:00 Personal opinion, it is ok but it has to be remembered that it only detects inbounds, it does not block adware etc from talking outwards.

BlackIce of course is not free but ZoneAlarm which does come in a freebie version will cover both in and out bound calls/scans.

194924 2003-11-26 19:16:00 Gibson Research Corporation (http://www.grc.com) has information pertaining to why Black ICE is not a very good firewall.

A better alternative is ZoneAlarm (www.zonelabs.com), but even better is Kerio Personal Firewall (http:), althought Kerio has a steeper learning curve, and is better if you know quite a bit about firewalls. Both ZoneAlarm and Kerio Personal Firewall have free versions.

194925 2003-11-26 19:38:00 I use sygate personal firewall (free) and find it excellent. If you are a newbie to firewalls I suggest you avoid it though and go for Zonealarm which also has a free version or potentially Norten Personal Firewall, both of which are very user friendly.

194926 2003-11-27 15:54:00 I had black ice.IT worked quite smoothed. Then I decided to use zone alarm pro which I now have. Its more easy to use.I had norton firewall but somehow It just wouldn't let any data receive or sent.It just didn't let me do anything. The connection would connect but the connection would just freeze.I wonder why yingxuan (3330)
194927 2003-11-27 15:55:00 Inbound is the traffic where u view webpages right?Outbound is...? yingxuan (3330)
194928 2003-11-27 17:39:00 Outbound is connections from your machine to servers.
Eg: MSN Messenger to the MSN Servers, when you request a webpage (it sends out data to the webserver telling it what page is wanted), etc.
