194843 2003-11-26 06:40:00 we have a xp to 98se lan with internet connection sharing enabled and working (xp is the host of internet). gateway is installed on win98. we are wondering what settings we need for internet explorer to access the internet on the 98 machine. the host up on xp is 192.168.0.1, we have typed that in on the automatic configuration script and it hasnt worked. we can do other things on the net like play cs and quake but cannot use internet explorer or msn. help? 194844 2003-11-26 06:44:00 When you say (xp is the host of internet). gateway is installed on win98 do you mean that XP is the gateway (therefore providing access to the internet), and Windows98 has been told to use XP as the gateway?

Set yourself the DNS Servers! That should fix your problem.
Start > Settings > Control Panel > Network > *NIC Card* > TCP/IP > Properties
Click on DNS Servers (or DNS Settings, one of them), and add your ISP's DNS Servers to the list. If you are with Xtra use '202.27.184.3' and '202.27.184.5' without the quote marks. Alternatively, you could use WinXP as the DNS Relay Server which means you tell Win98 to use the DNS Server of '192.168.0.1'
