194736 2003-11-26 00:30:00 In my home computer when I disconnect from xtra, my phone line is not released. It is necessary for me to pull the plug from the modem to "hang up". Can anyone help? Is my problem likely to be in Modem? Phone line? Xtra? or what. If someone can give me a direction I can try and resolve the problem 1johnb (4213)
194737 2003-11-26 00:36:00 Its likely to be a problem with your modem, or the software that drives it.

If the modem is not using the correct driver, it can fail to hang up among a lot of things.

What type and model of modem is it, what is your operating system and version?

Has this always happened, just started or?

194738 2003-11-26 00:39:00 It's the modem. It's probably not being told to "hang up". If it's, say, on COM3, try echo ATH0 > COM3. If that makes things right, the modem is functioning correctly. Graham L (2)
194739 2003-11-26 00:41:00 99% of the time it's a damaged modem.

Replace it is probably the best course of action - modems are pretty cheap.

194740 2003-11-27 00:16:00 1. The problem started about two months ago.
2. It is not always there. Probably ok 50% of the time. However very frustrating if there is no release.
3. Running Windows 95
4. Modem is a Dick Smith "DSE PCI 56k Internal Modem code.

Thanks

194741 2003-11-27 00:31:00 It might be worth reinstalling the drivers for it, and seeing if that helps. If you don't have the original drivers, you can download them from the Dick Smith Website (www.dse.co.nz). somebody (208)
