194621 2003-11-25 21:12:00 Got a PC running Win98SE. All runs fine except the Recycle Bin is not working.

When I delete a file, it asks "Are you sure you want to move the item to the Recycle Bin?" and I click yes. The problem is that it doesn't go to the Recycle Bin, it just disappears as though I was holding down the shift key while deleting.

I have checked all the Recycle Bin options and they are as they should be and there is plenty of HDD space free.

Any ideas?
Cheers

194622 2003-11-25 21:28:00 Sorry, forgot to add that I have booted to a DOS prompt and deleted the Recycled folder to make Win98 create a new one but made no difference. :( CYaBro (73)

Are you deleting from the harddrive? Or are you deleting from A drive or networked drives?

194626 2003-11-26 22:30:00 Right click on Recycle Bin > Properties
Remove the tick from "Do not move files to the recylcle bin. Delete immediately instead"

194627 2003-11-26 22:48:00 Been there, checked that, it isn't ticked.

You know when that is ticked because when you delete something it just says "Are you sure you want to delete..."

Normally it says "Are you sure you want to send... to the Recycle Bin?"
This is what it is saying but it just doesn't do it???!!!

194628 2003-11-27 03:54:00 I could be way off course here but has the PC got a protected Norton's recycle bin that has somehow lost the plot? Susan B (19)
194629 2003-11-27 03:57:00 Yea, I checked that but has had nothing like that installed.

Been talking to another PC tech who's pretty on to it and it sounds like it might be the big reinstall :(

194630 2003-11-27 06:37:00 Big reinstall? Just boot from floppy - CD support - W98 CD in and run "set.exe" Very simple.
Bye
