195079 2003-11-27 01:30:00 Hi,

I'm rather protective surrounding my files and folders. You need to supply a password to log onto my account, but my mother and father sometimes need to use my computer. I wish to also password protect certain files/folders as extra protection to make sure nobody has access to this personal information. Is that possible under Windows XP?

thanks,

195080 2003-11-27 01:34:00 Provided that your parents log on using a different account, this is possible.

Right click on your folders, go to Properties-Sharing. Select "Make This Folder Private". This is assuming that you're using XP Home. That way only you can access them.

In XP Pro, you can do the same, but it gives you more options.

195081 2003-11-27 03:44:00 Are you aware that you can create User Accounts in Win XP? You could create one for your parents, or alternatively they could use the Guest Account.

Managing user accounts is done via Control Panel or Start > click on your User Name at top of Start Menu.
