195212	2003-11-30 05:39:00	Yo Beet. A brief explanation. As you know, there can be two or three conversations going on in a thread. Tom posted asking if we are the sum of our thoughts and ideas? This idea was originally developed by a French philosopher, Rene Descartes, in the 17th Century. He said: "I think, therefore I am" Descartes ideas are often referred to as "Cartesian" as in Cartesian Dualism. I freely confess Tom lost me with the "realm of parts" post although I think he is saying you cannot ever know another person or what makes them who they are. Anyway, the "artesian" is a pun on Cartesian. Monty Python had a famous song about philosophers. Lourdes is famous for its healing holy waters. Finally, I have to agree with Tom that inner peace would either be illusory, or represent the cessation of thought. Without conflicting emotions, ideas, physical reactions, we would be automata. Incidentally this is how Descartes regarded animals. We haven't actually defined inner peace. I think the best we can hope for as fragile human beings, is a sense of balance and fulfillment. LOL :p I have read this post / thread so many times and still cannot understand how we got from the original post to the um er crap we seem to have ventured into, i am not an english teacher so get wildy lost on this shakespeare stuff and dont have the foggiest idea the connection ???? that it has to this thread...... but have had a little too much sun today so may have frazzled the brain i thought i had for something vaguely resembling a brain..... still feel like im drowning in useless information at moment, and when and if i understand the gist of it i may even let you know..... so just to add a little fire to the water..... im off to search for those flying cows...... not pink pigs this time, oh or is it supposed to be a Tardis im looking for???? absolute drivel said now im off, before the next load of er um manure is passed back...:D :p beetle	beetle (243)
