I'm looking at moving on from my dial up modem so I can play counter strike and other games with success (maybe), but was wondering first how to know what sort of megabyte usage these games take. | 195809 | 2003-11-30 07:49:00 | Good question. If you're an avid online gamer it may be better for you to get the slow-speed dsl option - 128kb/s. You can still use the Jetstreamgames login to use the full speed adsl on local servers, and does not charge you for any usage. And it doesn't matter which ISP you use. If you need to connect to other game servers overseas then although your pings won't be as low as some other high-speed gamers, you'll definitly be better off than the 56k'ers. I play quite a lot of America's Army (the grown-up's version of CS) and use 15-20 MB's per hour - this adds up for me to about 2.0 gigs per month, including all my browsing, downloads, uploads etc. So - I recommend going the 128k poor-man's Jetstream |

I use Orcon's Jetstart plan - costs me $20 per month to them, plus of course $30 to Telecom = $50 per month for low speed adsl and the equivalent of an extra phone line. Not sure what you mean by the above, but I use my regular adsl modem to hook into the Jetstreamgames realm to get full-on 8Mb/s speed while playing on their servers (or something toward that - usually about 4Mb/s). So if you're a Counterstrike player (there are also a few other games too) then it's the only way to go. |
