I believe it worked on (perhaps early) Win 95 versions - it seemed to act as a note to Windows not to boot automatically - having the command to boot Windows from Autoexec.bat wasn't needed, but having the REM win.com seemed to work to tell it not to boot to Windows. I guessed it might also work like that in Win98, but I've never tested it.

195678 2003-11-30 03:08:00 As stated above rem stands for remark. Win3.1 was started from the Autoexec.bat file so adding rem infront would stop it but Win95 above is started in msdos.sys so there is no win.com to put rem infront of. mikebartnz (21)

But you can always add win.com into your autoexec.bat file, and then put REM in front of it :)

195680 2003-11-30 07:36:00 As stated anything in the autoexec.bat file that has rem in front of it is considered a remark so does not get actioned eg it is totaly ignored when running it.
So rem win.com will be ignored when running the batch file.
