195682 2003-11-29 03:36:00 Win 98 not currently connected to Internet. On start up IE and Dial up Connection box load automatically. When opening My Computer or Windows explorer, the Dial up Connection box pops up by itself. How do I stop them loading themselves. gypsy (4922)
195683 2003-11-29 06:15:00 I'm no expert. So far as I know stopping IE loading means going into the registry and having a fiddle (gulp).

So far as the dial-up is concerned, I suggest going to Internet Connections, and checking what is ticked.
However there are lots of really brainy people on PF1 who can give you a proper answer.

195684 2003-11-29 07:07:00 In Internet Explorer go to Tools, Options, Connections and enable "Never dial a connection". tommy (2826)
195685 2003-11-29 10:59:00 1. Run adaware or spy bot through your system
2. check the startup folder in start... programs...startup. see if there is anything in there that would cause IE to launch
3 goto run type in MSCONFIG press the enter key select the startup tab, again check for startup items that may cause IE to launch.
4. Update or install a virus checker and run a full scan.

These are the steps I would do before going any where near the registry.
