195936 2003-11-30 21:42:00 To cut a long story short (nividia driver upgrade) I have had to reformat my HDD and load win98se in place of XP as I could not re-install xp as the pc would lock up with various bluescreen messages of death. Something like:

LRQ Driver not equal?
Front page fault?

After doing a fresh install of win98 I once again tried to run my XP Home upgrade disk but to the same effect. Once again I reformatted the HDD and reloaded win98se.

I am loath to try the upgrade again becasue if it fails I'll be stuck with the boot screen asking me to continue with the Win XP setup.

The reason I had to load win98 is when I tried to repair XP it would crash before I could get to the repair screen.

Is it worth trying to load XP?
Anyone have any ideas on the blue screen messages?

195938 2003-11-30 22:06:00 I actually had some of the same error messages appear on a clean install of XP last week.

I narrowed my problem down to the FSB on the motherboard being set to high for the processor.

Also it appeared that some of my USB ports were causing trouble.

Not sure if that helps, but you never know.

195939 2003-11-30 22:25:00 Funny you should mention that. As my AMD 2000 XP now comes up as a 2600! running at 2083mhz!

No I didn't change the settings!

Do you think I should go back to 133Mhz in bios? its currently running at 166mhz.

MB is Asustek A7N8X-X/Lan Socket A NForce2 400 FSB400

195940 2003-11-30 22:38:00 I would suggest you give it a try. Once I set the FSB back to the correct setting, all my install problems went away. Obelix (752)

195942 2003-12-01 02:30:00 Hi Rockteer .

Microsoft states that the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error message will occur when trying to upgrade from Win98/WinME to Win XP . It is generated by incompatible hardware or incompatible device drivers .

Do you get the error before installing the NIVIDIA driver upgrade? How up to date is the driver you are installing?

Revert back to Win98, uninstall any antivirus programs/boot manager software and clean boot your computer .

After the clean boot try and unpgrade to WinXP . If this provides no joy then it could be a hardware problem .

Hope this helps!

195943 2003-12-01 03:19:00 Honestly I don't know If I could face another install run. If win98 keeps running, I'll keep it.

The Nividia drivers were the latest from there website and it all turned to custard after that. It didn't help I think to update my Leadtek drivers and Winfox at the same time.

I take it you should reboot after each install rather than keep installing and then reboot once.

195944 2003-12-01 03:33:00 Did you use the win2k/XP drivers, WHQL as they are called, that have been tested for XP compatibility?

I upgraded mine last night, all at once, on a win2k machine with no problems. Asus A7N266-VM mobo.
