196314 2003-12-02 23:54:00 is it busier or is it just obsession coz you know you can get more done than u would have?

i'm just wondering if the obesity issue thats becoming global is just because we are more into gaming and computers instead of being outside exercising etc

but i assume the next 5-10 years we'd probably be able to exercise with a computer on our glasses and maybe then we;d get too fit and they'd make us eat more.....

196315 2003-12-03 00:23:00 Generally I like to see the contents (of a magazine) "stick to the knitting" as described by their name. But in this digital day and age one of the buzz-words seems to me to be "convergence" and it is under that buzz-word that things like cameras and cellphones are relevant in a magazine named PC World.

HOWEVER, as I haven't read said issue< I have to wonder at just how well PC World covered the issue of convergence (with those thins called 'PCs') when drooling and rambling about a bunch of (digital) cameras ...

What I want to see is a good review of the convergence of (digital) cameras with (digital ) cellphones and how well such devices integrate with PCs ...............

I use a cellphone for national toll calls to justify the convenience of being able be contactable when the landline is in use (or down), and for safety when out and about (eg: dog attack and women drivers in large 4x4s pulling into their driveway in front of me walking along the footpath), and sheer convenience. SO some of these features (personal security) would be enhanced by the inclusion of a camera and then I would want it to interface/integrate easily with my PC........

More importantly what I would like to see in a PC magazine is detailed comparison of PC components that I might be able to buy in integrate, such as motherboards or sound cards or speakers or headsets/microphones (wireless of course) , NOT digital cameras - put them in a separate supplement that can later be spun-off into a separate (quarterly) magazine of it's own .

196316 2003-12-03 01:02:00 My 2 cents......

As a freelance IT consultant, there is no way I could be in business without a cellphone. It is primarily there for clients to contact me while I'm on the road - a call missed is an opportunity lost. Personal ringtones are handy to identify one's phone when amongst a group of people, but other "features" such as games, cameras, etc are pretty worthless to myself.

I also bought a digital camera with the knowledge gained from reviews in PC World.

What surprises me is that there hasn't been any cellphone review. Although I don't change cellphones every time a new model comes out (I know people who do), I would find it helpful for recommending to clients which brand/model is better.

eg. Once upon a time I would have recommended Sony Ericsson (being a "name" brand and all), but after using one for 5 minutes I was extremely frustrated with the "lag" in the software and now wouldn't recommend one to anyone. Without a magazine review or personal experience it isn't always possible to gain knowledge such as that.

So sorry JJJJJJJJJJJJ, but bring on the cellphone review.

Yeah! As someone said previously, there are reviews on digital cameras because they 'go with computers' i.e. work together with computers; you can use the software on computers to edit photos and all that.

Cellphones today can be used with computers - I am sure that some can be plugged into the computer to download more games, or ringtones. Some are even wireless. You use the internet to get a new operator logo etc...so why not have a review on cellphones - i.e. recommending the models that are compatible with PC's.

196318 2003-12-03 04:09:00 The title is:
PC World
Name one of the fastest growing peripherals for a PC in popularity?

Camera

Cellphone

CD-R/W

Wireless

All are relevant IMHO :-)

196319 2003-12-03 04:47:00 I don't buy as many books as I used to, but I always had a browse before I bought one . I still do . I don't have orders for four magazines every month . That was in the days when Byte magazine cost $2 .
Computer magazines then had a bit more "computing" in them . . . Byte, ETI, even Wireless World had assembly code as often as reviews of commercial stuff; how to build a floppy drive interface as often as a description of a commercial box . That was interesting . ;-)

Before I buy a magazine now I have a look at the contents page, and a bit of a browse of some of the articles .

But if I buy a magazine without that preview and I don't like some of the content,

I DON'T BLOODY WHINGE ABOUT IT

Are we expected to offer sympathy to Jack?

196321 2003-12-03 06:39:00 Some people wouldn't be caught dead playing games on cellphones; they think the games are that pathetic.

Shameless to say, I have played games on my cellphone :8}

But yes, people do find rather trivial uses for their cellphones. Such as that persons example of children phoning their mother to tell them they enjoyed their lunch. Quite stupid, in my opinion. Can't the mother wait the few hours til her children get home? Doesn't she know she's exposing her children to radiation each time they use the phone (and while those radiation claims were never confirmed AFAIK, I do think that there is probably something emitted from those phones).
