| 196283 | 2003-12-02 05:08:00 | The question that springs to mind for me is this: There are occasional Off Topic threads in press F1, which as far as I know no-one objects to - you read them if you think they are going to be interesting/amusing. If this is OK, how come the same thing can't apply to the magazine? Of course if it was all OT and no PC stuff, that would be different, although a bit on what anti-virus Judy Bailey and Prince Harry are using now could be faaascinating! |

| 196284 | 2003-12-02 08:51:00 | A most interesting if somewhat pointless debate :| I have zero interest in gaming, but I don't mind gamer's pages in PC World. I don't have any interest in Linux, but I don't mind Linux articles in PC World, I subscribe to the NZ Herald, but I don't want to read every every section, or even every page, article or news item in the sections I do read. I am willing to acknowledge and embrace the diversity of interests that make up society as a whole, or the sub-interests that make up a newspaper or magazine's subscribers. I don't expect every item on a restaurant menu to appeal to my taste, but I still eat out. I don't expect every page in PC World to interest me, in fact I don't expect every article to even be relevant to my computing interests. I guess what I am saying Jack, is that tolerance is a virtue, and it is not necessary to leap into print just because you don't like the content in one issue out of the eleven we have enjoyed this year. Tolerance is not only a virtue, it is supposed to be enhanced by age and life's experiences. Nobody needs to launch that sort of attack on a magazine just because the content doesn't meet their ideal package. It is a free world, so if you don't like it, don't read it. If the content doesn't suit you, don't subscribe, if you want to read another mag, go ahead, we don't mind, honestly! Just don't expect us to share your indignation, life is too short for that malarky. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 196292 | 2003-12-02 10:07:00 | > A most interesting if somewhat pointless debate Whats pointless Billy? Just about everyone who has posted has made a point of some sort or other. Maybe not world changing and it's hardly a debate, a bit one sided to be termed that. Mind you, you go on to make some very good points your self ;) Come on Beama, pull finger and post the missing post. Do you need somewhere to host it? JJJJJ, I do know how you feel when standards appear to be sliping left right and centre. It's dammed hard to get a good read out of a Sunday paper now with them all seeming to be competing with the same tabloid style content. AT least there are alternatives in the PC mag market. I think PC World is the most relevent to NZ and they at least haven't taken up Metlas suggestion, yet ;) Cheers Murray ;P |
