196263 2003-12-02 00:00:00 J to the fifth power, I think you would find yourself very much in a minority, but you have a free choice. Why not just buy those editions from a shop, that you find interesting, otherwise you are "cutting off your nose to spite your face".

I buy Silicon Chip magazine but only those that have something that happens to interest me. Everyone to their choice.

196264 2003-12-02 00:04:00 None of the above has any relevance. It's a computer magazine that is being degraded.
I suppose next month you'll be selling used cars, Bruce. Anything to bring in the advertising $$$.

196265 2003-12-02 00:08:00 Well, sorry you feel that way. Digital cameras, like other digital devices are covered by most mainstream computing mags because the audience predominantly find it of interest. I don't think you'll find that we are in the habit of doing "anything to bring in advertising" and much as I am insulted by the implication it is of course your choice to hold that opinion. 196266 2003-12-02 00:09:00 You could call it appealing to the masses. It's similar to radio stations such as ZM; they play songs which are in general popular, because the majority of people will like what they play (if not parts of what they play).

The reason you don't see a heck of a lot of specialist magazines doing well is because there simply isn't that much demand for them. Therefore you get magazines such as PC World, PC Authority, and APC. They are all geared (once again, in my opinion) to be aimed at the masses (of geeks, of course), covering a broad range of hardware, software, issue, etc.

196267 2003-12-02 00:10:00 Yeah, I agree that it is stupid having a computer magazine rambling on about digital cameras, but this is why I just by the issues which look any good, as Terry suggested. Craig (448)
196268 2003-12-02 00:14:00 - ZM only play 20 or so of the thrashed songs, over and over and over again. There need to be more stations like The Rock which play a mixture, and the other songs on CD's which aren't thrashed and actually turn out to be the best. Not that this has anything to do with it or that ZM is being said to be good, it's just ZM is a real **** station. Craig (448)
196269 2003-12-02 00:17:00 Would you at least admit that digital still cameras are becoming more commonplace, and the demand for high quality and pack-loads of features at lower prices is increasing?

And that consumers would like the ability to be able to print images from their digital camera at home, either through a PC or directly to the printer? And that simple image editing tools are being included with cameras, because most consumers would like to perform simple tweaks on their photos?

196270 2003-12-02 00:21:00 We are all entitled to our opinions, but please use suitable language.

Such as, it is my opinion that ZM became too commercialised, and hence I no longer listen to them.

PC World, on the other hand, has yet to reach the level of utter commercialisation that ZM has. And I doubt that it ever will (especially taking into account the differences in content deliverance).

196271 2003-12-02 00:53:00 >> I just love cache, Bruce

Got somewhere you can post that Beama for others to enjoy ;)

JJJJJ, I was of a similar opinion to you not so long ago, not quite to the same extent tho. In the past six months, due to a new carreer/business, I've become very interested in photography (again) and digital in particular. For totally selfish reasons, I look forward to the digi camera articles and the related, software, PC tweaks, storage, file tranfer, how to's, etc, etc. I'm not at a level however, that I would buy a specialised mag to get the 1 or 2 articles that would interest me or I could understand, maybe down the track a bit. What PC World does for me is fill the gap between the basics I know and the highly technical stuff I need to find in the help file or on the net from time to time. Plus its great for a drool at the goodies I want but probably shouldn't.

I know I'm biased because, I'm still in love with my little optically inclined mini PC and I must consider all the various options for, card readers and USB 2.0 cards and Photoshop Elements plugins and filters and flash units and...and...ramble...ramble....drool....drool.

Who says you can't mix business and pleasure. Pure bliss :D

Keep it Bee Bee and Robo, et al.
