196520 2003-12-02 08:55:00 Thinking of getting some more ram for my system, only problem is, I dont understand half of it.

I currently have 256mb DDR 266mhz, Would I be able to put another 256mb, but 333mhz in? Then just tell them both to got at 266mhz?

Just looking at the QMB, Samsung RAM, and it has a whole load if funny stuff to me.

Unbuffered ?
16C(32Mx8) ?
8C (32Mx8) ?

Is it best to buy those retail packs?

Thanks

196521 2003-12-02 09:43:00 Use the same type of ram which sounds like it is PC2100. Aida32 is a very good program to tell you all about your PC. mikebartnz (21)
196522 2003-12-02 17:12:00 you can use 'faster' ram quite happily it'll just 'clock down' automatically to the speed of the slower stuff drcspy (146)
196523 2003-12-02 22:23:00 Sometimes mix and match doesn't work though hence my advice to use the same type of ram.
I recently bought 512MB of PC2100 to go with the 256 I already had and while the bios and a memory checker program I had had no problem Win2k would not boot. One stick or the other and no problems. Slacked me off as I would have been happy with 768MB.
So I actually have a 256MB PC2100 stick going ( $ ) if anyone wants it .

196525 2003-12-02 23:13:00 Hey, I wouldnt mind that. How much are you looking for ? mejobloggs (264)
196526 2003-12-03 00:48:00 Hi there Gordon. I do get over to Wellington occasionaly. I wouldn't want to swap for the reason above. Having just had a quick look on trademe I would be happy with $40. mikebartnz (21)
196527 2003-12-03 00:50:00 $40 Where do you live. mikebartnz (21)
196528 2003-12-03 03:12:00 Whangaparaoa.

I can pass though, it looks like kiwibeat wants it.

$40 is too much for me, as then I have to add on $50 or something, because my computer is still under warranty, so I have to take it in.

Thanks anway
