196456 2003-12-02 04:57:00 As a lot of you will know I use and love Firebird but just lately it has been crashing on me quite a lot, often taking quite a few replies to posts with it . Is anyone else experiencing crashes as well?

Was using the MicroFirebird 1 . 6 skin until a few days ago and it has been much better since changing to Bluemonkey . I also have a number of Extensions installed as follows:

Tabbrowser Extensions
Tabbrowse Preferences
TabScroller
Bookmark Links Checker 0 . 5 . 2
IE View 0 . 6

Apart from the last two I have always had the others installed with no problems and very rarely, if ever, had Firebird crash prior to this version, 0 . 7 .

Before I start stripping it back to the default installation for troubleshooting can people with version 0 . 7 please tell me if yours crashes or not and what extensions and skin are being used, if any .

Thanks . :-)

196457 2003-12-02 05:14:00 Below are the official crash test ratings for the Firebird:

Pontiac Firebird (2001/2002)

NHTSA Frontal Crash Driver - Good
NHTSA Frontal Crash Passenger - Excellent
NHTSA Side Crash Front Occupant - Average
NHTSA Side Crash Rear Occupant - Good
NHTSA Rollover Resistance - Not Tested
IIHS Offset - Not Tested
IIHS Bumper Bash - Not Tested

If you are crashing yours so frequently, perhaps your driving skills are in need of a refresh?

Remind me Susan, what has this got to do with computers? ;\

196458 2003-12-02 05:18:00 Hi Susan :)

My WinXP Firebird (0 . 7) has been solid as a rock - no signs of misbehaving .

There were some issues with some incompatible themes when 0 . 7 was first released, but this might of been resolved by now (haven't checked lately) . However I am using the same Theme as you, "Bluemonkey" which is compatible with 0 . 7 .

My extensions are:
QuickTools - 2003 . 0805 . 0
Tabbrowser Preferences
Tabbrowser Extensions .

I have customised many settings in the above Extensions with no problems .

Did you do a clean install with this version, wiping out all previous traces of FB from within Application Data under your username? Perhaps try generating another user profile for Firebird and see whether that crashes .

196460 2003-12-02 05:37:00 Ive been using pre-comiled binaries until yesterday (For Win32 and Linux). Have not had a single crash since 0.6 was released and I downloaded it the day after (Remember the race susan :p).

Ive just emerged MozillaFirebird (0.7) and I must say that installing from source, its such a fast browser...!!! There's a roughly 2 second delay between when I open it and when it appears on the screen... second time round its INSTANT.... (Im compiling apps ATM too, so it'll prolly be faster when Im not ;-)).

Brilliant!

Apparently rogue Skins are the cause of most crashes...?

196461 2003-12-02 05:52:00 Its never crashed on me (default skin, no extensions or plugins) .

Same with mozilla, it will only crash if there is dodgy extensions installed .

196464 2003-12-02 07:26:00 More problems with Firebird.
It does not update the current favorites from Ie6, it just seems to stay with the ones it originally imported.
Hard to figure out how to import the current ones. I have not succeded as yet.
Does not put the favorites in alphabetical order.
And if you right click the the favorites drop down lists all the entries disappear and will not return until you restart.
As far as I am concerned these are serious bugs.
Try using MyIE2, it makes IE6 into a tabbed browser. It seems really good to me.
