197361 2003-12-04 15:00:00 My uncle asked me today if I have a fax software on my computer because he received a voice message on his cellphone and since his cellphone doesnt have a fax software all he could hear from the voice messages was BEEPS.
He wants to hook his cellphone into the computer and used a fax software to convert the beeps to actually words.
DOes this make sense?I haven't come across anything like this.
Normally if somebody sends someone a voice message you wouldn't need any equipment.
IF u do understand this question. What kind of software can connect to my uncle's cellphone and convert the beeps to actually a voice message?
Im running windows98se

197362 2003-12-04 15:39:00 Back in the 80s you could use a "converter" from standard phone to use, making it into Data-communication. I never seen such a device latest 10 years, dont think its possible No! peter.jonsson (3024)

197364 2003-12-04 16:51:00 That is not possible.

What he is hearing on his mobile is an attempt to connect to a fax machine. Before a fax will transmit it will either send beeps to the receiving fax machine or silence, once the fax machines have made the connection or handshake then they start transmitting beeps and squeals which is converted into data onto paper. There would have been no connection between the mobile as it does not have a fax programme therefore there was no transfer of data to his mobile so there is nothing to decipher.

LOL, try this next time it happens. If you pick up phone and hear the beeps then beep back and try to fool the fax into transmitting. ;)

If you connect the cellphone correctly, and enable the Fax function in the PC, then the "handshaking" (which the beeps are asking for) would occur and the fax (if indeed it is a fax) would transfer

Fax software is probably already in Windows 98. You cant get a "voice message" from a fax. A fax is a printed image.

The question is how you intend to connect the cellphone.
That would require a special data cable (I have one for my cellphone) and the software suite for that cellphone model.
These are quite expensive items, by the way.

As for faxes over the mobile, I have used that function for 4+ years now. My mobile has 3 different telephone numbers.
One for normal voice, one for data and a third number for fax.

When a fax is sent to the dedicated fax number, if my phone is connected to a PC it will transfer the fax.

I never use that method though.

Instead, I divert the call to my Cellular Secretary (mailbox). Then when I am next near a fax machine, I simply forward the stored call to that fax machine's telephone number, it happens straight away and the fax is delivered.

Its a standard service on Vodafone, has been for years.
