197131 2003-12-03 21:58:00 I want to paint my case black but aren't sure where to get the paint for it. Does anyone know of any good places near Remuera or in Auckland city? kblue (4947)
197132 2003-12-03 22:05:00 I'm guessing spraypaint would probably do it?? you'd probably need to use some primer or undercoat first though. somebody (208)
197133 2003-12-03 22:10:00 Well it's always a good thing (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) to have a black case, but keep in mind - if it's a high performance unit then the heat dissipation may be a problem with additional coatings, other than the original. Anyway, I'd suggest just use a standard enamel from any dyi store, and don't use a regular brush - one of those mini-whatchacallits that look like a ummmm furry flat thing, gives a wonderful smooth texture - get the smallest you can find - maybe 2" square for the best affect. 197134 2003-12-03 22:13:00 In retrospect, Yeah I agree with Somebody - spray might be better, and also prime the surface lightly first.

I hope ya remove the innards first though!

197135 2003-12-03 22:22:00 my concerns are whether the paint will stick to the plastic parts of the case strongly enough, so it won't come off when scratched. Maybe a very very good clean with meths or something to clean off any bit of oil from the case might also help. somebody (208)
197136 2003-12-03 22:23:00 Speaking of paint - anyone heard of the recent craze of transparent paint? makes the surface it's painted on turn invisible. kind of reminds me of the old camper/hiker's solution to instant water powder - just add water for instant refreshment! :D Greg S (201)
197137 2003-12-03 22:25:00 Agree with the idea of meths or other solvent to clean the case first, but why oh why should a case have any oil or plastic on it anyway? urk! Greg S (201)
197138 2003-12-03 23:42:00 Don't use a solvent (eg Turps) on the plastic bits .... Jester (13)
197139 2003-12-04 00:07:00 I have been looking into this myself,But ive picked up a compressor and airbrush, next step is to buy some automative quality paint and have a go on my spare cases.

Anyway, ive been researching it over the last couple weeks.

In a nutshell

Disasemble the case completly, including the front panel, switches and everything else.

Wash down with warm soapy water.

Sand metal parts till smooth with a fine grain sandpaper

Primer the lot including plastic parts.

Paint, using many layers of light coats.

Theres quite a few tutorials available on the net.
