(Im assuming you've figured Ctrl + C will stop the pings?!)

197090 2003-12-04 21:19:00 No luck, ping still doesn't work. I'm heading out... will be back late afternoon/evening. Jaguar (4442)
197091 2003-12-04 21:33:00 Hmm... Bummer....
And what does:
ifconfig
bring up now after you've run all of that?

try:
ping localhost

Are you Dual-Booting with another OS on your Mandrake 9.2 machine?
What NIC have you got in your PC? One of those Reatek 8139-based cards that DSE Sell?

197092 2003-12-04 21:58:00 isnt a mandrake one of those squealing plants on harry potter? Jimmy D (2061)
197093 2003-12-05 00:18:00 The easiest way is to just use the mandrake tool to do it.

Goto Mandrake control center -> Network -> drakconnect.

Hit next until it gets to the screen with IP address & netmask (you may need to untick automatic IP). Enter the new ip address, eg 192.168.0.3.

Then hit next and fix the gateway address if you need to.

197094 2003-12-23 19:09:00 Just waking this thread up, just went for a little holiday!

Still no luck with Mandrake! :S

Not sure if it will make a difference, but I will completely remove it... (if it's possible?) then re-install Mandrake. Something seems wrong, and it shouldn't take this long. I'm not going to give up and retire to Windows this easily!

Any suggestions again, are welcome.

197095 2003-12-23 19:20:00 To be honest, I'd recommend Fedora Linux.
I love the GUI tools it has for setting up networking among other things

Ive not used Mandrake since 9.0, but found I couldnt get a few things going (namely display, netork, and sound) whereas Fedora had them first time every time.

What Network card are you using?

Networking has always been a strong seller for Linux as you dont need reboots every time you change settings, it takes a matter of a second to change over.

Good luck with the re-install

Chill.

197096 2003-12-24 18:39:00 Well, the network card is a VIA VT6102 Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter.

And yes, I am dual-booting this machine with XP... under XP the network works prefectly. As for Fedora, I'll check it out, but maybe I'll move to Red Hat...

197097 2003-12-24 18:48:00 Errrr..... Fedora _is_ redhat....

Hence: fedora.redhat.com
