197158 2003-12-04 02:23:00 well the only thing i can find annoying is the service packs. 2000 has these to, but we havent got DSL so it takes about 2 hours. it would be better if there were more, smaller ones. Megaman (344)
197159 2003-12-04 02:40:00 You can always download the patches and save them for a later date. That way if you do a reinstall you dont have to wait for 1million megs to arrive from M$ via 56k.
By the way at work we have Celeron 333's running XP. Admittedly with 512 Megs of ram but they are still useful.

197160 2003-12-04 06:56:00 I run xp home on a celeron467 with a 20 gighd and 356 memory,no problem runs fine. I have automatic updates on windows and Nortons, and have han no real problems with anything. kk kirrie kiwi (279)
197161 2003-12-04 07:30:00 Am running XP Home now.Was on W98se with 128 ram & it was ok. Put on XP with 256 ram & it was ok-ish, but not seriosly impressed with its speed. M/c has a 1400 processor. Increased to 512 ram & a box of birds, would not go back. Sure we have had some problems, but I suspect those were down to "Poppa John"!!!!No rude comments please. PJ Poppa John (284)
197162 2003-12-04 07:35:00 People who know more about Windows than me will correct me if I am wrong - but can't you apply all the latest patches and service packs to Win2kPro and end if with effectively XP without the fancy icons\desktop.

If this is true, isn't spending the $$ on XP a bit of a waste?

197163 2003-12-04 07:47:00 I run 2000pro, 2000server, XPhome & XPpro
XP of either flavour has many new & improved features over Win2000, too numerous too list & as far as my experience goes is the most stable, reliable OS there is for a home user.
I also run 2 Linux servers which are stable as hell, but not really practical for your average home user.
Go with XP, but you do have to keep up to date with all the patches/fixes etc. but it's worth it & not too much of a hassle once you get into a routine.
And of course more & more apps are being produced that will only support XP, especially multimedia stuff.

Oh try me... You'd be surprised how good it can be if you install MPlayer/Xine, OpenOffice, MozillaFire/Thunderbird.. and one or two other things ;-)

197165 2003-12-04 08:32:00 when i heard Napster was back i was right into that and then i find out its only for xp .

Yeh XP is pretty easy to lan with to, just plug the cables in set ips and such and its done and ICS is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooo easy on it .

Unlike win98, but i run win98se and its good . I freeze, occasional blue screen, dunno if it could be due to my 1 or 2 year old Power Supply fan does not run as fast as it could be . . I have to get it going with a little stick .

Maybe it would be helful to readers using older OS to list say 4 of these must-have features that are an essential improvement.
