197351 2003-12-04 21:17:00 I am looking at building a new PC and am interested in the following
1. The difference in speed between 7,500 and 10,000 RPM drives. Is it worth it?
2. Who makes a graphics card that supports two digital displays?

Thanks, Jackiex

You're looking at that 36gig WD hard drive, aren't you? It's probably nice to be able to say you have a 10k rpm hard drive, but hardly worth the money.

Two digital displays? You need a card by Matrox (www.matrox.com). Their Parhelia is a very good card.

197353 2003-12-04 22:08:00 I know a few people with the Western Digital Raptors and they absolutely love them, though I know other people that think they're a tad too loud.

For the graphics card I think you're pretty much stuck with matrox (that is a good thing) if you're wanting the two digital connections. Though most cards now have one analogue and one digital port so you can run dual monitors.

197354 2003-12-04 22:35:00 1) Not worth the price to get a 10,000 rpm hdd, not with their storage capacity anyway ;)

2) Here's another option for you 3DLabs Wildcat VP880 Pro (www.3dlabs.com)

197355 2003-12-04 23:12:00 The 10,000rpm drive could be worth it speed wise though... but of course SCSI would be nicer. -=JM=- (16)
197356 2003-12-05 07:32:00 it all depends on what sort of system you are building. kinda piontless on an elcheapo budget system but very nice on a high end pc. raid5 with 3 raptors would be so nice and far cheaper than scsi. tweak'e (174)

Waste of money. Get the new PuRam technology ("hard drive" as a big ram disk). Will set you back like $5000 atm.

197359 2003-12-05 22:53:00 if by "two digital displays" you mean something will dual DVI ports im sure ive seen cards based on the GF4MX chipset with dual DVI. Some of the ATI All-In-Wonders also have dual DVI. Pete O'Neil (250)
