197345 2003-12-04 21:10:00 I have Jetstart on XP via a DSE Router.
I would like to have a normal Dial-up connection for those times when the Jetstart is AWOL
Problem is that XP insists that the 'Broadband' connection is the only one & will not set up a Dial-up.

ME allows me to have as many connections as I want.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

197347 2003-12-04 22:34:00 You are going to find that the problem exists not with having the 2 connections live at the same time, but your computer will not know what gateway to use. Think of it like having someone put another front door in your house so you have two - what one would you use?

Does each machine (WinXP and WinME) have it's own dialup modem? or is that going to be shared from one machine? - if you wanted to have WinME dialup by itself when the ADSL service is down then you can just tell WinME to dialup and it should override the network gateway settings (either that or you can just unplug then lan cable) and surf the net. The same goes for XP if you can find out how to add the dialup connection.

If you want dialup to be shared between the connections you're going to find that you're going to have to specify WinXP (for the use of a machine) as your gateway on the WinME (which means having it running while you're on the net - even if you're not using it). You can't use multiple gateways in this instance because the router will still be plugged in and responding to requests, so even if it doesn't have a connection WinME will still be asking it for one. Then just add the modem into WinXP, set the dialup connection and you're sweet - bearing in mind you will have to manually dialup to the net should your connection go AWOL.

Although on a completely different note - your Jetstart Service shouldn't be going AWOL on you - it should be a simple connect and forget process as your router will hold the line for you. Did you get a Telecom tech into split your line, or are you using Line Splitters?

197348 2003-12-05 03:02:00 I assume that the dial up modem is still installed (and filtered depending on your adsl connection).
I have on occassion required to use dial up when I had issues with adsl modem. To create a dial up account using XP then I click on Start | run... | then type inetwiz then OK.
Follow the wizard and that should instal a dial up account.
Just wondering, maybe you need to disconnect the adsl prior to installing. Your need is only when or if jetstart falls over so you will only be connected to one or the other. Just make sure that the adsl is set as default for regular use.

197349 2003-12-05 07:05:00 The ME & XP are dual booted on the same machine.
A DSE Router is connected to the LAN. Direct connection, no dial up.
There is a 56k Win Modem which works well in both Windows, Fax on both & Internet on ME.
I have tried disconnecting the LAN but the Dial up Wizard refuses to make a dialup connection, wants to make another LAN connection.

In ME there are two TC/IP, one for the dial up and one for the LAN, but the XP only has one Network adaptor & one TC/IP. Looks like the dial up components are missing from XP. I don't know why, as it used to work on Dial up before I got the Router.
